Originally posted by Lanny No, I assume most of what you say is true in the same way I assume most people tell the truth most of the time, or at least when there's no particular reason to lie. The claim that you have a minor fortune and live a life of leisure just seems specifically unbelievable. There are a number of examples of you undertaking some money making or saving scheme or generally being frugal on a level that makes no sense for someone with the level of money you claim to have.
You're going to say "you get rich by not wasting your money" but you know that's BS, things that are are a net loss for anyone making more than a typical USD earning professional, or just being generally pointless if money really weren't an object. The mmq monopoly money incident seems like a fairly obvious example.
I wasn't going to say that at all. The money making/saving schemes you are referring to are things like my suggestion that you have a dedicated page with affiliate marketing links on your site. Something similar where you had a similar response was when I suggested we all use by TF2's (now patched) text mode idling to collectively farm the TF2 weapons, scrap them and sell them for money to help pay for Zoklet's hosting fees. In both cases, your response was "WOW IT MAKES SO LITTLE MONEY, WHY WORLD A JILLIONAIRE SUGGEST IT?". In both cases, as I explained, you were missing the point; a cool experiment in how our community could cooperate. I wasn't suggesting we make $10 in TF2 scrap per week for the sake of making $10. How is that even a reasonable conclusion to make?
As for being frugal on X level, I can't even think of a reasonable example, give me one. Most of the things people have pointed to are just fucking retarded.
For example, the idea that my apartment has laminate countertops and therefore I have no money... Do you understand how retarded that is? I pay $950 a month for a pretty nice apartment in Clearwater. I've literally never thought about the countertops prior to that. It meets my every desire. What the shit am I even supposed to say to that?
More importantly, I've never said I am leaving an extravagant life. That's literally not even my style, and that's what's doubly silly about this whole line of thinking. I don't come from a rich background, my parents weren't wealthy. I graduated from a Pakistani college that I would never have been able to afford without a scholarship. I understand the value of money and I know what it took to earn every cent I have. I was raised to be frugal, and that's as deep as the rabbit hole goes. If you see a story like this:
https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2017/02/17/warren-buffett-once-paid-for-bill-gates-mcdonalds-meal-with-coupons.html
For example, somehow it's just "dem kooky billionaires", but anyone who learns from examples like this (amongst others) is poor because I guess every wealthy person that isn't Warren Buffet, needs to burn wads of hundos every day to keep that fresh money scent about them.
When someone else actually thinks about, learns from and implements ideas like escaping the hedonic treadmill, and the Buddhist concept of vanquishing the suffering of absence by conquering your desires... Wow holy shit, there is no way that could ever be a winning mentality, right.
And of course I will have some material desires anyway as well. I am only flesh and blood. Do you want me to post more pictures of my Land Cruiser or my Ultra Boosts? I could. These are not excessively frugal things that a complete jedibot would buy or possess. I'm frugal but by choice; that's why I can choose to indulge in a $95,000 Japanese import car as well. No, I pretty much agree with it. A lot of people take "capitalizing on opportunities" to mean either praying for rain or chasing get rich quick schemes, which obviously isn't what you're saying, but I would say steady professional development is more important than waiting for the perfect business opportunity or whatever to fall in your lap.
That's pretty much what I said, but in a more general sense. You don't wait for opportunities to fall into your lap, you take the one you have and prepare yourself for the new ones that your progress creates. The fact that we have similar ideas on the appropriate way to make money also suggests you're not as wealthy as you claim.
This is not exactly secret knowledge shared only by upper middle class yuppies, you know. If someone is in the lower economic strata and wants out, this is the roadmap out. What would a rich person say to LSD? Invest in Ethereum, buy stocks in oil index funds? Wouldn't that ignore the fact that the nigga was celebrating making $150 in tips in one night? And again, I respect his struggle because I know the value of a dollar. I'm trying to give him the best advice I can for his general situation. -

Probably either not to try or to work hard in the coal mines in hope of owning a nice home in the suburbs, having two children to tend to the mines after he becomes too old to have his labor productively exploited -

2017-12-30 at 7:17 AM UTCHonestly, I've talked to Captain Falcon a good bit. He definitely lies and has admitted such to me on occasion, but I think the money thing is real. If it isn't, he sure went through A LOT of trouble to keep it up with me in private conversation.
The biggest and most flagrant lies he tells are the ones to cover up the fact that he's actually a bichon frise. -

You think that because you are thinking like a poor man would imagine a rich man would think. As a rich man, I was briefed at my first Bilderberg meeting about the REAL tool by which us elites keep you peasants down: it's called the American Dream. Everyone thinks they can escape their proletarian destiny by trusting the process and "working hard" and "being smart". They actually think it's a meritocracy! HAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHA. And the best part is, it means there will never be a revolution ever again! They think having an iPhone makes them rich! -

2017-12-30 at 7:26 AM UTCHas anybody here had any good experiences with tripping in a winter climate? (snow, cold, etc.) I feel like the layers would be very constricting, might be nice if you're inside with cozy blankets, good heating, and some hot chocolate tho. The truth is effortless.

Took mushrooms on a farm north of Sacramento during the winter once, it was a pretty cool experience (pun semi-intended). Mind you, it's California winter so no snow but there was frost and stuff. It was really nice to sit by the window with the fire going and look at the trees and empty fields and stuff, looked really dead but thinking about how different it would look in spring and the changing of the seasons and stuff was nice.
I wasn't outside long, went out and felt cold as a motherfucker so I decided to jog to try and warm up, ended up falling and scraping up my palms and that kinda sucked. But I think that has more to do with me being a klutz than anything else. -
