there were a ton of poor kids whos sole purpose was to be in for the minimum amount of time to get their GI Bill then get out.
A yes, joining the military because of an unintentional pregnancy - this clearly refutes that rich people generally join because they're stupid. -

the retards and unachievers get low-skilled jobs where they have large amounts of supervision and can do very little damage if they fuck something up.
the intelligent and high achievers get jobs with minimal supervision and critical job requirements…as well as jobs whos entirety of the job is supervising others, some of whom may be as smart and ambitious as they are.
wealth is literally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
- one rich-kid with a college degree wanted to get out but he annoyed his superiors so they wouldnt let him get a discharge even though his family was literally getting congressman/senators to call the chain of command. the result was the rich-kid was assigned to shit details…literally picking up trash on the base…while his compatriots were working in SKIFs and producing briefs for admirals and ultimately congress.
- one kid was an uber-low rank with zero authority yet his family was rich and would sent 'presents' to him and his friends.
- i knew personally a high ranking admiral who came from a piss-poor family with zero connection resources to business or elected officials, and literally didnt even have a high school diploma, but was intelligent and a uber-high achiever so he went from a shit-tier enlisted job to mulitple-star admiral.
I'm not saying wealth impacts your standing once you're in the military, I'm saying wealth is big determining factor in who joins the military in the first place. Obviously it's not entirely poor kids, but poor kids have way more incentive to join up regardless of their level of intelligence. Acting like they're all stupid morons is classist af. More than a small minority of service members are "cool" or "smart", but §m£ÂgØL assumes they're all fucking stupid. Why? Because he's a middle class suburbanite who can't fathom the military being someone's best option.
The rich white kids in the army? Anyone §m£ÂgØL knew growing up in the suburbs who joined the army? Yeah - probably bottom of the barrel intellects. It was the best they could do. A lot of the poor kids are only there so they can make the most of their lives though. Even average-to-smart poor folks have a ton of incentive to join, and §m£ÂgØL is too busy being a liberal elitist to recognize that. -

I'm not a fancy book learning type, but I feel pretty safe in saying you can. Just not in substantial quantities like alchemists envisioned. Literally every element to ever exist was transmuted either from hydrogen by natural processes or artificially by humans. Apparently lead to gold transmutation has been done already by way of bismuth? Too lazy to look further into it, but yeah. Entirely theoretically possible with our current understanding of physics, and potentially already been done.
Maybe metaphysical gold can only be transmuted in equal measure - mere atoms of gold at an immense cost. -

I don't think that's purely the case, alchemists were manifestly performing actual chemical experiments even if those experiments were far from rigorous by modern standards and more akin to banging rocks together. If it's a metaphor, it's probably one they thought was true in both a physical and metaphysical/metaphorical sense.
And of course, they have since been theoretically vindicated by our ability to actually transmute elements in the modern era. I think it might actually be more realistic to transmute lead to gold than for human beings to achieve a metaphysical golden quality. -
