They should put on the child's gravestone, "Mommy Let Me Get Run Over By the Big Train".

Ok, sure, "reporters", that's fine, but "reports"? I don't think so.

You said you "have to work 1.25 hours to buy a pound of bacon", and in your OP you said "a pound of bacon is $9 here".

It was more a hobby for me. I was already making good money at the trades, but I smoked a lot of good weed and hash, so I always had a good supply, and people would always ask me to score for them, so I thought why not just cut out the middleman and give them a decent price for some top shelf product. I ended up making more off the dealing than I made off the trades. I used to buy a half kilo of the gold seal Kabul or the top-shelf Green Moroccan for $4/gram and selling .8's for $10, markup of $7/gram. So on a half kilo, I'd make $3,500, and I'd sell that in a week.

Not enough time? The guy must have pushed them just seconds before the train came in.

What about electric service in Winnett, Montana. Would they be required to produce it themselves or would they be free to buy it non locally from a non local business? How many Sq miles are in a local?

If your local area can't run it, then that local area probably doesn't need it. Simple. This situation would push people to get their act together. If your local area doesn't have a phone company, for whatever reason, then that local area doesn't need phones, apparently. All well and good. Sure, we could look at the entire city of New York as a local area. It doesn't matter how big the local area is. We're talking communities, not size. If the local community is good at something, then that's what they can bring to the table. If it's something they don't have or some goods or services they can't produce, then they can collaborate, but they can never be permitted to operate under a single identity of both, or more, communities.

Must have been a painful decision for the mother. That they both die, or she save herself. One can only imagine the scene that has now been permanently imprinted in her mind forever.

The mother leaped onto a center island between the tracks just as the train bore down on them, leaving the child to be run over, but saving herself in the process.

Banning them wouldn't work in modern society. If all business were small and locally operated how would you get from London to New York? How would the internet work? How would any from of long distance communication function. Or do you propose we go back to a pre-industrial agricultural society?

Local businesses would simply network for continuity. For example, if you were making a call overseas, the local phone company there would connect with the local phone company here to make the connection for the customer. So they can network, but they would be banned from becoming a single entity. Corporations are a clear and ongoing threat to the national security of the entire planet, and should be outlawed once and for all. No excuses.
