Well, it's tougher than it looks, because you have to be 100% positive the thief has the goods, and you also have to know exactly what he picked up and exactly what pocket or bag he put it in, and exactly when he did it. Since you know when the thief gets away with something he'll be back, it's just a matter of patience really.

I know exactly where you are, Lanny. Why is this important? It's not.

Employees are trained not to prevent theft in the store. Only loss prevention is authorized to make contact.

Loss prevention has access to the hardcopy receipt rolls inside the register, so it's very easy to detect. Just roll back the transactions on that cash and viola.

True. They are a lot harder to catch, because they use drop spots and stashes and outside accomplices within the store, and they are aware of personnel schedules and internal movements. We are fully trained to handle that, though, and they don't get far before being nabbed. I've personally arrested dozens and dozens of employees.

No, he would buy the chips just after he walked in, then walk around the store and leave with goods in the bag.

Post the whole address spectral, let's see it and tell me if you think that's where I live. Or you could take the 30 seconds required to try to find the address you have and realize no one lives there because it doesn't exist.

inb4 spectral doesn't post the address.

I think it's better if you're not quite sure if I have it or not. I mean, you are 99.9% sure I don't, but there will always be that 0.01% of doubt if I don't tell you. I have to be very tactical in dealing with people like you. I need to keep my cards very close to my chest.

With the women, it's usually (9 times out of 10) three or four girls who come in together and fill up while covering for one another, and that one other time it's an older lady loading up by herself.

He wouldn't say I got the right one in any event. I'm ALWAYS wrong. It's the default with this kid.

About half and half. The women mostly grab the makeup and perfume and clothing, whereas the men mostly grab hardware and electronics and toiletry. I arrested just over 5,000 shoplifters in my entire tenure, and I found it to be mostly half and half.

I'd seen the guy a couple of times before that, from binoculars in the view-port in the sub ceiling, and he would pick up a small item and then it would disappear, although I never saw him reach for his pockets or anything. On the third time I said fuck it and went down and approached him outside and flipped my badge and grabbed the top of the bag and looked in. It had 5 or 6 items in there. He just said, "You got me."
