lithium cells don't output a constant voltage; when almost dead they output 2.4v, if you deplete them any further an unprotected cell will die permanently. nominal output is 3.7v and when fully charged they output 4.2v, keep pumping power in after that and you risk fucking it up and/or starting a fire
I found an old USB power bank though so I'll probably just pull the charging circuit out of that

Long story short some other guy stopped behind us and relented to drive the dude home and i gave guy some gas money but the real tragedy was the dude harshed by buzz but my coworker and i discussed how we nasically saved this dudes life so i cracked a canned margarita and put on some appropriate music for the ride home and henstarted crying laughing
