It's just so shit man. It all collapsed at once for me. I hate these people. Stand-up comedy is straight up the worst possible live act, it is literally a one-man play where a rehearses how to mimic an organic funny guy.
I had this feeling for a long time but seeing it live in action turns my stomach, now that I know it's what they're doing.
Most recently I saw something on Bill Maher's podcast that almost made me sick. He was interviewing Dana Carvey and they were both talking about "feeling like they were cheating" when they managed to "get a laugh out of saying something that wasn't even funny but they said it in a way, not even a funny way, but a way that the audience thought it was funny, it almost felt like cheating but those are the best laughs".
Basically that the audience has just been lulled into laughing like NPCs at the very cadence and rhythm and pace of "standup comedy", including the very feeling of being in a club with a crowd etc, that they will just laugh at any old bullshit if it is delivered in the right "rhythm".
My reaction was like… Motherfucker, that IS CHEATING THOUGH. So audiences are just so fucking retarded apparently in these people's minds that they are now just playing a Dance Dance Revolution style word based rhythm game.
Funny is like a real guy organically finding humor in stuff, there are literally 10+ posters in this site who are organically funnier than literally 99.9% of top "stand ups" but will never even feel the need to go stand in a stage in their lives, nor would they thrive in that environment because it's just a weird videogame and not actually meant for really funny people.

im dragging my girlfriend and the looks shes going to give me over the course of the evening will be well worth the 2 item minimum.
