Just want to add that there are healthy 20 and 30 year olds with no pre-existing conditions who have died due to corona. It seems to effect people with varying severity. A lot of people are totally asymptomatic but who knows if you'll be one of the ones who gets absolutely fucked by it. And hospital beds are going to be scarce soon too if Italy is any warning. We need to be quarantining NOW. -

1. Bernie is a Democratic socialist like most of even right wing europeans are. Democratic socialists push for social welfare over the people gaining power over industries. Norway is straight up socialist. The people own the oil industry which is one of the biggest in the world. The government distributes the profits among the people and that is what is used to fund their daycares and schools and doctors and right now their ongoing quarantine. Bernie does not want the US people to have any control over markets currently dominated by corporations. He just wants some of their taxes to go towards social welfare programs such as those we already have: food stamps, healthcare, social security, etc.
2. The Nazis were not socialists. They put socialists in their name because they were populist and socialism was fucking huge in the 1920's and 30's. It was beneficial to have the name 'socialist' in your political party. Meanwhile, Hitler ended up stripping actual socialist institutions in Germany, like the steel industry and railroad system. He had the government 'buy' it from the people and then started using that control/profit to start making tanks and other military equipment. This is what he did before invading Poland and kickstarting WWII. There are some other socialist institutions they had back then that he stripped but I only remember railroads and the steel industry. Those were being used to fund their national healthcare system. That cut funding ended up leaving a lot of German citizens without insurance. The Nazis were hardcore capitalists despite their name. Take a look at their actual policy instead of the facade of a name they set up. -

That said, are they mailing the stimulus checks? I wasn't old enough to really remember/care back in 2008.
If they're mailing them on the 6th it could take a while before people actually get them. -

France is dumping into small businesses and social security
Italy is helping businesses that face a 25% or higher loss in revenue and also using some to fund their existing social welfare system that is currently funding people through quarantine
Nowhere else are they just flat out giving a check to people. -

Well, thats why we should've had mandatory sick days to begin with. You dont see Europeans needing to hand out stimulus packages. They were prepared for it and could afford quick action to keep everyone home. We spent a week writing this bill and if you compare to italys situation we'll be pretty fucked without a nation wide quarantine in the next week or so. Cases are expected to jump from about 2k to 20k within the next 10 days.
