2023-01-19 at 3:18 PM UTC in Collections trying to collect on a fraudulent debt. What do I do?The other day I recieved a letter in the mail saying I owed my old landlord $426 dollars and it was from a collection agency trying to collect it.
I called my old landlord to ask them why they never sent me a bill and during the call (which I recorded) my landlord stated that she did have my forwarding address and contact information but never sent me a bill as it wasn't her job...
Then she proceeded to describe over the phone a list of charges that she claimed to be the reason why I still owed money.
After that call I contacted the collection agent who is a real ugly, obnoxious black woman who basically told me that if I don't pay it they will report it to the credit reporting whatevers.
I asked what proof they had of my supposed debt and she e-mailed me a 1 year lease from October of 2020 that expires September 30 2021
The lease is in both Michelle's name and my name and yes they have been trying to collect this from her as well.
Keep in mine that this bill is dated 6/6/2022
After Michelle and I broke up she moved out and I resigned a new lease after the 1st one expired.
The new lease was in my name only and so should this debt as I see it.
Except that no where in the lease do I see anything about a lease break fee of $58.
And also the month of rent they are charging me for that is 2 months after I moved out and returned my keys has pet rent included which makes no sense as if I'm not living there anymore why the hell are they collecting pet rent still too...
There was no drywall damage but there was a spot of peeled paint yet the description my old landlord gave me doesn't match that. She said they had to replace drywall.
In Ohio a landlord has 30 days to return a tenants security deposit or give explanation as to why they haven't and neither of those conditions were met.
I am in my right to take my old landlord to small claims court for double my security deposit which I never bothered doing before because it really wasn't worth my time but now that they are selling fraudulent debt to collection agencies to harass me about I think I might go ahead and pay the $75 filing fee to take them to court.
According to that bill my move out date was 5/2/2022 which is also incorrect as I moved out around 4/20 but the bill is dated 6/6 which is past the 30 day mark anyways so I am 100% in my right to go after them and I feel as though I should to resolve this case.
What do you think I should do?

It was actually one of the tamest thrill rides I remember riding. It was quite pleasant and smooth with no abrupt strains and/or g forces which made it very relaxing. -

I was really looking forward to this trip and had tried to make it happen last year but had to postpone it.

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the end of the year.
It is crazy how fast time slips by as you get older.
As I reflect of the past 365 days I must say that as for a roller coaster, this one was pretty good and definitely ended good.
I expected to move once and maybe switch jobs but I ended up moving twice and although I did switch jobs I hadn't expected to find one I really like but I did.
Also, I drive a Subaru now. That's pretty bad ass.
My girlfriend and I are doing better than ever and it's awesome to be with someone who you can work so well with towards goals and who gives you the drive to accomplish things.
The kid is doing very well too, just going through kid phases and growing up steadily. She plays with dolls and likes bacon.
This next year I feel will be several around the house projects because I'm already itching to do stuff.
Really hoping to go on a nice vacation this summer.
And hopefully buy another vehicle so my girlfriend calms down about our need up a back up car.

Moving, fixing stuff, working, family and enjoying every second of it that I rarely find myself coming back to this shit hole website.
Anyways, did a good bit this weekend.
The kid wasn't feeling the best so I made the grocery run solo and also picked up more toys for her Christmas.
So far she has probably 20+ gifts but she is of an age where there really is only so much she can even do either limited by her attention span or her coordination and tbh she already has some of what she is getting again just in a different variation (like dolls and shit).
My precious Subaru is leaking oil from the drain pan so I'm quite done going to garages and having work done since they just wreck shit being grease rats. Hoping like hell it's not stripped too bad but I'm sure they fucked it up.
Our new home is coming together very nicely. Slowly but surely things are being arranged and set up.
As we go we find out more and more about our house. For instance this weekend I swapped a new shower wand into our master bathroom and I found the shower arm
^that part, was so fucking old that the inside of it was full of sharp jagged rust buildup and now I have tetanus.
I normally would have replaced it but everything is tile and I really can't be fucked with old ass tiles maybe popping off while I yoink pipes out of walls especially when there is no decent access and I honestly don't even know where the shut off valves might be.
My job is going great. I work 45 hours a week and love it. I mean it sucks but it's much better than a lot of jobs I've had.
The only part about my job I don't care for anymore is the hours and not seeing my family 5 days a week.
Sometimes it seems nice but really it isn't and it sucks more every passing week.
My goal is to figure a way onto first shift next year so I don't miss out on anymore.

Halfway through buying one sofa I started second guessing myself so in a panic we bought 4 sofas...
Sofa #1 and #2 is the Boxberg,
Sofa #3 and #4 is the can't think of the name of it but will be delivered in the morning and I'll post pics then.
And after all that we came home to find our dishwasher had broken itself.
I need an old school dishwasher with a dial on it like this one,
But the only place I can find them is a second hand at American Freight and I really don't know how I feel about all that.
