Big pharma has a monopoly so they can charge whatever they want. This is like how insulin and Epi pens which should be cheap as fuck they are basic medicines just get more expensive because only a few companies are allowed to produce them.
Anti capitalist regulations and FDA are the reason they can get away with this. If there weren't so many laws then a company could just produce a cheaper generic and compete. But there is zero profit in doing that not because people wouldn't buy it but because the costs associated of licensing and getting FDA approval are more hassle than its worth. That's why all big pharma companies are old and have been around forever because it's basically impossible for anyone new to come in and do anything differently.
The system is rigged. Just look at Martin Shkreli. He tried to play like the big boys and got sent to fucking prison for participating in capitalism HURR AMERICA FREEDOM

My grandpa quit smoking cigs cold turkey the day the surgeon general announced smoking is bad.
He lived to be 90 years old just like his dad.
I dunno how old my dad will live and he doesn't even smoke but I am hoping if I quit smoking the same age as when my grandpa did that Ill live to be 90 also.
I think it was 1964 when they said smoking was bad and my grandpa would have been 31 years old.
I am currently 30 years old so I still have a little time. -
