2019-01-05 at 6:31 AM UTC in I just rage quit my bank after 15 years and went to the credit union across the street (DISCUSS: banks vs credit unions)
Originally posted by gadzooks I started a (personal / debt consolidation) loan application back in NOVEMBER with my bank (one of the big Canadian ones… think green color). While I have an okay salary, my credit isn't perfect. I did manage to pay off all my debts that were in collections, but I still have to build my credit from here. So, I got my dad to co-sign for me, and his credit is exemplary.
But they were just making me feel like my application wasn't important, making me chase them down to get things moving, and then, the straw that broke the proverbial camels back - THREE $48 NSF fees because I was a day late in moving some money into my checking account to cover some end-of-month bills (because I was expecting the loan to be approved my now and thus cover those expenses on time).
I told them that I keep applying for overdraft protection, and they keep rejecting me BECAUSE OF THINGS LIKE THIS…
It's fucking catch 22.
And then I thought - why the fuckam Idoes anyone who is working class keep their money in banks. Banks are for rich people.
Credit unions do like the wacky-waving-inflatable-arm-flailing-tube-man store does - "they pass the savings onto YOU!!"
But for real though, what are the pros and cons regarding each option? The more I think about it, the more it seems like a credit union is the way to go (for working class folk).
The differences may be marginal at best, but whatever, I needed a change anyway.
whoa dude cool it with the antisemitism, anti-bank is code word for anti jedi. you're not a racist are you? -

The oversocialized man has feelings of inferiority so ingrained that he cannot conceive of himself as individually strong and valuable. Hence the collectivism of the oversocialized man. He can feel strong only as a member of a large organization or a mass movement with which he identifies himself. He may claim that his activism is motivated by compassion or by moral principles, but compassion and moral principle cannot be the main motives for moralist activism. Hostility is too prominent a component of moralist behavior; so is the drive for power. -
2019-01-04 at 5:47 PM UTC in If you're a Russian citizen and you criticize the Russian government...
Originally posted by aldra There is no evidence that the Russian government had anything to do with the cases of the Skripals, Litivenko or even Magnitsky (who the US actually named sanctions after).
In fact, evidence indicates that people within the UK and US governments are the most likely culprits for the last two.
***All three actually, but we won't know for sure what happened to the Skripals until (if… unlikely) the UK security services allow Yulia to speak about it.
aldra is actually a russian spy tasked with meddling with your head. -

Originally posted by DietPiano If you do a bump of heroin and walk inti a clinic will they give you subs/methadone?
I'm amusing they can't diagnostically tell how long you've been on it
Lol, technically you probably could get away with it.
They piss test you, of course, and, interestingly, in my case, it had been a few days since I last got any quality product, so I actually pissed clean and was denied. The doctors at the clinic literally said I had to go and score some, take it, then come back and give them a positive piss test to be accepted.
It worked, and I got in the next day.
They give you a brief interview about your experience, but the intriguing thing about it is that, the way they word the questions, sometimes you an end up being unintenionally ambiguous.
For example, they asked "how long have you been using heroin?"
Well, my very first time was almost a decade prior to that. But, I wouldn't in a million years have considered myself an opiate addict for most of those years, since i was just experenting - zero addictional/habitual use existed. It was like a once or twice a year thing at first.
But, as far as the question on the piece of paper was concerned, I was considered to be a "10 year opiate addict". -

2019-01-03 at 9:21 AM UTC in Can Someone Please Tell Me How this Works? You see a doctor and lie to them about a diagnosis they made up in the first place. Then you register with the state to acquire a privilege that shouldn't be withheld. After that, you're supposed to lose other rights but you probably won't comply. Ideally, somebody will die during this process.

Originally posted by GGG We really do not wait long in America for the court system. A few months usually. In some countries they wait years to even make it to court. I'm sure you've watched the same prison shows I have. Jail time is probably the least destructive part of the whole process anyway. I don't know why I wrote this post but please argue with me.
It depends, if you agree to extending, and waiving your rights to a speedy trial, which a lot of people do, because it can take a long time to build a defense, then you could potentially be waiting years. They don't tell you that before you waive your rights for a speedy trial though. Most DAs would love to agree to waiting because then it gives them more time to build/prepare for a case, although, in big cases, they've already built their case long before you were ever charged.
Sometimes if you press for a speedy trial, then they'll throw it out just because the court system is so backed up that they wouldn't have the time to try the case. It depends on which court it is in, but it does happen. If every person pressed for a speedy trail at the same time, they wouldn't possibly be able to hear each case in the allotted time frame. -
2019-01-01 at 1:59 PM UTC in WTF is with people changing user names on this site?
Originally posted by aldra haha what
Yep. It was on zoklet. They did a whole good cop bad cop routine and called my parents because I was underage. They came with printed threads and read the entire post out loud to my mom and dad, which included the phrase "that half nigger obama" which they read aloud. My brother in the next room laughed when he heard them say nigger.
They searched my room a bit with consent, looking through what types of books I had mostly. I remember being asked if I had any "bomb making literature". Then they left and nothing came of it. I'm definitely on some list for it though. -
