Originally posted by -SpectraL They're all barcoded, which means the barcode on the cheque would have to be one that is not only valid and activated, but also issued and uncashed. You can't just make up any barcode and expect it to scan properly.
There are three sets of numbers printed on a cheque...
1. The institution number (each bank has its own such number).
2. The branch number.
3. The account number (your actual chequing account number).
Numbers 1 and 2 are easily found online with a simple bit google searching.
Number 3 can be faked.
It depends on what the machine does the second it reads that magnetic ink.
If it's just checking if such a sequence of numbers is realistic, that's a pass.
If it's checking if that particular account # corresponds to an actual account #, then it's a strong maybe.
If it's checking the balance to see if funds are available, then chances are pretty slim. -
2019-02-19 at 3:29 PM UTC in Tax Season is Best SeasonBut Ministry cheques (Canadian welfare/disability) would probably raise suspicion... I was on social assistance as recently as like a year ago, and it seemed like it's almost universally direct deposit now.

Government cheques would definitely benefit from a template style (since they all look identical).
My whole thing involved fabricating imaginary companies, with custom cheques each time.
But government cheques would work well IF the templates are good. -

Man I used to print my own cheques back in the day.
I had everything worked out...
-- cheque paper (OTC).
-- magnetic ink cartridge (so the cheque scans and everything. also "OTC", but slightly more obscure).
-- laser printer.
-- fake ID connection (harder to find).
-- friend willing to get fake ID with his photo and cash the cheque at a cheque cashing service for 50% payout.
-- sufficient knowledge of how branch, transit, and routing numbers work to be able to fake them with just enough realism.
Made a few grand, but then literally weeks later, all the cheque cashing stores (Money Mart, etc) put the word out, and they found a way to detect them. -

Believe it or not, but I've been there, done that.
It's brutal.
I remember even thinking it a clever move to deposit an empty envelope at an ATM, but telling the machine there was a few hundred bucks in that envelope.
After a bunch of shit like that banks, creditors, etc started trusting me less and less. -

First off, does it work for Canadians too? -
2019-02-19 at 3:04 PM UTC in Shake and bake mephedroneMan, this thread really single handedly my proves why we need more members posting here.
I'm working on that, via a couple different angles, but most people don't seem all that concerned.
The thing is, that would result in more people that might be willing to engage in discussion and... Might even bring a certain degree of expertise/knowledge/ideas to the table.
Threads like this just end up with the two of us, and then ultimately you just end up finding a solution on your own.
We need to establish a space that fosters more contribution and more back and forth.
I'm working on my Chem knowledge as best I can so I can be of more help, but more people would help too. -

I worked all year of course.
Tax time came along, we both did our taxes….I owed $406, he got nearly $7k…(due to him having 2 kids and qualifying for some bullshit poverty rebate or something
what kind of fucked up country is this where a worker ends up owing and a fucking unemployed bum gets $7k….I told him when he got his check he owed me $406.
I have no idea if that balanced out in the end, because I am straight up dumb when it comes to managing money, so when you factor in the additional variable of time... I'm straight up lost.
Don't you also have a 401k then? If I recall correctly you're from the UK? The funny thing is that I'd have figured my homeland (Canada) would be pretty similar (Commonwealth nation and all that)... But we have RRSP's en lieu of 401k's. And don't they just call it pentions over there?
Yeah money is straight confusing to me. I'm absolutely lost right now. -

Lol I could totally picture that happening to me back in the day. That is, if I had even paid enough taxes to get that.
I legit earned less than 20k a year until I hit 33.
Some people are late bloomers, as it turns out.
When I was in my 20s I saw any opportunity for money right now as money worth spending...
Me: "I got accepted for a credit limit of $3k?"
Also me: "This is gonna be one hell of a weekend then..." -

Originally posted by Jiggaboo_Johnson If your income was $0 then you paid $0 in income tax right.
I don't get the logic behind people who pay $0 getting a tax refund…it's not a charity!
It's carry over. So I paid tens of thousands in tuition and, at least in Canada, tuition for accredited post secondary education is tax deductible.
BUT... I was making close to $0 while in school (worked very part time, living mostly on student loans... Which I'll still be paying for years).
Now, about 5 years after graduating, I finally have steady income. So I get to use those carryover deductions on my taxes this year.
The funny thing is, though, if someone hadn't educated me on that, I'd have lost out entirely. I hate managing money. I mean, I like money... But accounting type stuff... Not my forte. -

2019-02-19 at 2:04 PM UTC in Shake and bake mephedroneOmg mephedrone is related to MCAT...
That's why it sounds familiar!
I've never done it, but like 15 years ago I was research how to synthesize it (methcathinone) because it looked easier than meth would have been. -
2019-02-19 at 2:02 PM UTC in Shake and bake mephedroneYou know what, i may be thinking of 4-FA... I found an old record from about that time period where I mentioned doing 4-FA.
I guess I don't know mephedrone.
Heck, I don't even really know much about 4-FA, but apparently I've tried it. -
2019-02-19 at 1:57 PM UTC in Shake and bake mephedroneI think I tried mephedrone once... I'm not 100% sure what it was... It was almost 10 years ago. I bought it online. It was some kind of stimulant, but it was not meth or coke. It almost certainly started with M (but so do lots of stimulants).
I remember it being not too bad, whatever it was. I'm not super into stimulants, though. But I am curious to try it again.
