I'm not 100% certain on this, as I have never done it before myself (no real need for me to), but I have heard on multiple occasions that even a MAC address can be spoofed.
I'm sure if the infosec/opsec needs are important enough, and the user is savvy enough, they'll find a way. -

Ok I added more explicit exception handling...
It was a mere charmap / character encoding issue.
By reading the failed threads as bytes and in turn saving directly as bytes, problem solved. -

Awesome post, but I especially love this line.
Long-term memories are clearly stored via some physical neural configuration.
Why can't we (theoretically, at least) copy that exact same configuration, thus preserving the memories?
The problem then becomes: how do we reconstruct those memories in an understandable medium?
Can we create 2d images that display on a screen for living human observers to experience?
What about 3d images?
What about AR (Augmented Reality) that allows the user to experience all natural human senses associated with that memory? Sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, etc.
The only thing missing is context (i.e. if the memory is one of looking at a currently endangered species that no longer exists when the person is wearing the AR equipment, they will be pretty confused about what they're seeing).
But, that still runs into the homunculus problem.
The person wearing the AR is not equivalent to the person who originally experienced that memory. -

Up to a point, though.
Cells age much in the same way entire organisms age.
And our ability to regenerate cells depends entirely on the type of cell, the health of the entire organism, as well as the health of the surrounding organ and other tissues. -

Originally posted by gadzooks By the way, folks, this is where I live…
I'll admit to a certain degree of trepadation about posting my EXACT ADDRESS, but that's certainly more focused than anyone else here can claim when it comes to self-doxxing.
At least, from what I've seen.
I have seen Internet-Tough-Guys get into online fights and say something like "meet at the corner of Main St and 48th Ave at 10:00 PST, I will whoop your ass".
But that's not what this is.
Anyway, if you happen to find yourself in or around that particular neighborhood, PM me.
I'm always open to meeting new people.
I only give an approximate radius of my whereabouts.
I don't give out my exact address under most circumstances... -
