It absolutely blows my mind that so few people bring this issue up.

Our society is a tad too casual about simply taking our supposed "loved ones" to a butcher shop to have their genitals excised.

Holy fuck. I'm actually kinda triggered by the fact that there is a banner at the top that says "It's not illegal to be white… yet," implying that being "alt-right" is a noble cause about preserving ethnic/national heritage just like any other racial pride movement, but then has articles about installing and configuring your house nigger.

I guess I'm a compatibilist in the free will debate.

Oh man I remember the law of attraction and the movie What the Bleep Do We Know?

The weird thing about it is, even though the underlying theory and explanation of it all is absolute pseudoscience, the general idea of focusing on what you want in life and keeping it at the forefront of your mind's eye is actually decent advice.

You just have to actually take actions in your life that will ultimately lead to achieving that goal/desire/whatever.

Like, you can't just think about a shiny new red bike every day and expect one to drop from the heavens into your front yard.

    Probably not.

    Sexual harrassment though?

I'd be absolutely shocked if not one woman has ever felt like my awkward advances were somewhere on the harassment spectrum (in their opinion).

And yes, technically the debate over evolution is a different realm from debating the existence of God, but it literally never happens without some kind of reference to God.

A lot of people do believe in both God and evolution.

And, technically, one could believe in neither as well...

That'd surely be an interesting take on things, though.

    Also, INB4 iam_asiam68.

Literally a day or two ago I stumbled into my first theologically oriented debate in like a decade.

Back on Totse, and a little bit on early Zoklet, I was one of those millitant atheists getting involved in just about every religious debate. I really needed a fedora just to top everything off.

But over time it gets repetitive, and you start to lose interest.

Also, I got incredibly tired of having to explain some of the more subtle distinctions...

In layman's terms, I am, and have been for the last decade and a half, agnostic.

But in actual technical terms, I am an (agnostic) atheist.

The problem is when someone comes along and says "how can you know/prove there is no God", and I have to explain that I make no firm claim regarding the non-existence of God, I simply find his (why is he always a "he" anyway?) role in the universe unecessary, and so, like all things that are not required to explain how something works, I avoid making any claims about such a things existence.

But there very well could be a God, or gods, or any other such entity or phenomena, I just withhold strong claims in any direction until I see reasonable proof.

I imagine there's some kind of law in just about any country, but I do wonder how exactly each one quantifies "lewd".

Like, does it have to contain at least one non-euphemistic reference to either male or female genitalia OR a sex act?

To what degree can euphemism cover your ass with plausible deniability?

I've never felt particularly inclined to test these edge cases myself, but perhaps one is willing to go out there and take field notes?

This is the most enthralling story I've ever read about one man accidentally entering a public washroom in which another man was already urinating.

It was actually a pretty mediocre school. The student loan covered more than tuition.

Part of it went towards rent and other living expenses, and, as a function of time, more and more of it funded my gradually worsening heroin addiction.

Also, I had a very atypical postsecondary educational experience.

I started by retaking like a dozen high school classes when I was about 23 at a community college type place, then went balls to the wall and started taking 6 to 10 uni level classes per semester (by attending more than one school); no summers off.

So I actually finished the bulk of my postsecondary classes over a two year period.

I got a 50-60k government student loan that I've barely made so much as a dent into over the past ~8 years.

    And that's just for a B.A.

Med school - just don't flunk out.

If you've made it that far, just keep your eyes on the prize.

Many years ago my plan was to go to med school (either Neurology or Psychiatry for specialty choice - perhaps even Anesthesiology if the first two don't work out).

If you're close enough to internship and residency, just power through the rest. If you lose interest in the subject matter / career, but still have tremendous debts to pay, you could always leverage your prescription-writing abilities...

Oxy scripts can pay off your gubmint debts in no time at all.

I've been to my share (and perhaps even a dozen hetero dudes' share) of gay bars, and they ain't exactly a bad time.

They do bars like everyone else for the most part.

And being hit on more can be kinda confidence-boosting.

Even if you're like a 7-8 out of ten looking dude, going to a "regular" bar means you are just another person in a place full of other people.

But there's something about dudes (NOT EXCLUSIVELY GAY DUDES - just having male reproductive organs and hormones) that makes you a lot more noticed in a place simply full of other dudes.

Absolute LMAO at the iam_asiam68/totse2k1 thing...

I had the exact same thought initially, at first exclusively because of the avatar, but then bolstered by the tendency to kinda rant off into tangents while quoting obscure/esoteric theories.

But I did notice his (iam_asiam68) referencing DH (as well as his registration date at about the DH merging - mine is too, but let's not get bogged down on pure coincidence), as well as oft-lurking DHers coming out of the wordwork to point out that they remember him.

Ultimately, though, in line with Aldra's comment about it being "different mental illness," the Totse-original is all about politics and conspiracy theories, whereas the DHer seems (so far at least) exclusively about religious esoterica.

If there's such a thing as a "doppelganger" IRL, these two would be the quintessential example.

I'm very much enjoying it tho. I'll posst more about it when I'm not on this shit phone

Locke happened to have a very huge influence on the world in two totally different arenas:
    1. Epistemology (outlined in his Essay Concerning Human Understanding).
    2. Politics (outlined in his Two Treatises of Government).

Which of his works you're gonna wanna read will depend entirely on which contribution you want to learn more about.

I don't know much about his politics other than, like you mentioned, he was one of the founding grandfathers of America.

But because you mentioned Essay Concerning Human Understanding, I thought I'd give my thoughts on his epistemology.

If you ever do decide you want to explore his contributions in that department as well, hit me up fam. Not a lot of people wanna talk epistemology outside the confines of esoteric academia.
