Woah, dude, remember that depression helmet I mentioned a while back? I recall PoC responding along the lines of "I want this."

    http://www.bbc.com/news/health-27115432

A helmet that delivers electro-magnetic impulses to the brain has shown promise in treating people with depression, Danish researchers have said.

About 30% of those with the condition fail to respond to medication or psychological counselling.

The new device targets malfunctioning blood cells in the brain.

In clinical trials two-thirds who used it reported that their symptoms had disappeared, and improvements in mood were noticeable within a week.

The helmet was tested on 65 patients with treatment-resistant depression.

"They were feeling well, they were functioning well, they could start work," said Birgit Straaso, chief doctor at Hillerod.

"The helmet is amazing," said Annemette Ovlisen, a graphic artist who suffered recurrent depression for 16 years and a participant in the Hillerod trials.

"It's like the fog lifts. It was like somebody hit the reset button."

The device contains seven coils that deliver a dose of Transcranial Pulsating Electro Magnetic Fields (T-PEMF) to brain tissues.

The pulses are so minute that the patient cannot detect any sensation, and the only side effect so far is occasional "tiny" nausea that immediately disappears after treatment.

Prof Steen Dissing, of Copenhagen's Faculty of Health Sciences is the helmet's principal architect.

He said: "The device mimics electrical fields in the brain, and triggers the body's own healing mechanism."

The pulses activate capillaries in the brain, which form new blood vessels and secrete growth hormones.

"We think it works so well because we have imitated the electrical signalling that goes on in the brain and we figured out that this signalling communicates with the blood vessels," said Prof Dissing.
"And blood vessels do communicate with blood tissue. And we found that communication pathway."

In the trial, whose results were published this month in the journal Acta Neuropsychiatrica, 34 patients received half an hour of T-PEMF once a day, and 31 had two 30-minute doses.

The treatment had the additional benefit of enabling patients to improve their tolerance of the anti-depression medicine, researchers found.

They are currently seeking permission from the European Union to market the helmet within six months to a year, and said the potential demand was enormous.

Someone mentioned TMS treatment for depression on reddit, others shared their experiences: https://www.reddit.com/r/science/com...pression_have/

"I've had major depressive disorder for at least 10 years and I just got this new treatment called TMS like 6 months ago. I feel amazing and winter is my worst time of the year but I just feel incredible. I sleep less now because I really want to experience all of this I've been missing."

"I was told this before and I don't think I will do it again because I honestly don't think I'll have to. It did what I needed. You feel the magnetic pull it's like flicking the inside of your head and it's not fun so yea, I can understand how it could be bad."

"Someone I know had a similar turnaround from TMS. It wears off though, hers has pretty much gone way after a few years."

I didn't know this had already taken off so much: https://neurostar.com/neurostar-tms-...ion-treatment/

There's one right by me: http://www.baytms.com/#!directions-map/rjc7j

May be covered by insurance as well: https://neurostar.com/neurostar-heal...ance-coverage/

Hmm, although there's this so called "deep" version: http://www.brainsway.com/us/why-brainsway
Would need to find good info first about differences between various methods/providers. Likely is more effective, the best option.

Pretty futuristic that we have treatments like this available now.

"I think I'll just make a makeshift electromagnet with a copper coil and a car battery and do some home TMS."

"meh, just cut an extension cord in halve and connect the coil to an outlet."

Lanny, you aren't hard science retarded, could we actually feasibly generate a magnetic field of sufficient strength at home, at a relatively affordable price, with an acceptable risk of death?

Ho, you saw a picture of me years ago, you don't know me!

But yeah, I'm an alcoholic with a desk job and whose hobbies all include sitting still for long periods of time, yall expecting adonis? Why don't you post a picture and we can all marvel at the sculpted nature of your figure.

Hey, I've already turned you onto hard drugs, how about giving selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs) a try? They're far safer than conventional anabolic-androgenic steroids, although, and this shouldn't be hard to believe, the risks have been massively overblown (A proper cycle, which is simple to adhere to, has no significant risk if you lack relevant health conditions). Testosterone is one of the key elements to male well being. I used to rant about this a fair amount in an old TRT. Not only that, but it can have one of the most powerful positive effects on cognition for many. There's a very good chance you have sub-optimal effective T levels. Take a look at this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/2usmux/why_testosterone_is_the_drug_of_the_future/?st=iuobqdfl&sh=2c90ac21

For example, the product I recommend has actually been found to protect the prostate from the effects of testosterone and have neuroprotective effects.

By simply taking a very affordable powder at 10-20mg a day you could see all around results in health, physical appearance, and cognition with no real change in routine required (Although it could well increase your motivation to do so if you're a responder). Relatively rapid noticeable results: http://www.nyles7.com/product-page/07a0b24f-36d0-57a5-f093-e3f1a864d85f

The dichotomy has a genuine basis in fundamental aspects of ideology. Then there's the well documented aspect of tribalism. The vast majority are, by their nature, mindless hyper-partisans, regardless of what they'd like to believe, and don't have particularly good reasons for supporting the things they do.

The people distract themselves. It's the reality of the nature of the common man reflected throughout the finance driven aspects of society, which are molded by consumer demand.

It's what idealist don't want to accept. There is no grand overarching conspiracy, they largely do it to themselves and always have. Repeat after me: There is no god, there is no hope.

The autism spectrum, and Asperger's, is an extremely complex neurological disorder (or "difference") that's wildly misunderstood. Few people really understand what it's like, and common pop portrayals, like Rain Man, are completely inaccurate. Of course not everyone on the spectrum is the same or will exhibit the same symptoms, just like neurotypicals, it can vary wildly. We all have different brains affected by our genetics, just like any other part of our body or trait, for example, height.

This can be very difficult to get an accurate score because so many people don't have the level of self-awareness, have done enough introspection and reflection on themselves, their life, current state, and past, traits and habits they have.

So you have to think very carefully about some of these and avoid the mistake that most people will make of self-deception, choosing answers that make you seem worse than you really are, if you perceive some of these preferences/behaviors/traits as negative things.

It's a private test, so if you really want to know the truth, be as perfectly honest as possible. Detach yourself from emotions and biases and just be as objective as you can. If you just lie or give inaccurate responses, the underlying truth won't change.

So, after that, here's a link to the test: https://psychology-tools.com/autism-spectrum-quotient/

I scored 40/50, which is pretty damn autistic, and it's very possible that a more accurate assessment could be even higher than that.

x-post from another thread I wanted to share. If you are a fellow abhorer of all that is Bill Krozby, his very essence, and appreciate a good comedy, this is for you:

Oh god, can you imagine the horror of knowing you had Bill Krozby's genes within you?

It's like, if Hitler had any children who had disowned him, how would they have felt? Or the feeling could be the equivalent of knowing you were at high risk of developing early onset Alzheimer's or spontaneous AIDS, somehow. I'm not sure I could live with it. At the very least I would sure as hell sterilize myself as soon as possible.

I can just imagine years down the line his daughter having wondered who her father was for all her life, then on some random alley there's this guy with matted hair, covered in filth, dressed in rags, reeking of feces and urine, with his hair falling out in patches, eyes shooting off in wild directions, skin that looks like he has leprosy, sitting atop a mountain of trash, used needles, gasoline, paint thinner, air duster, jenkem bottles, and every other of the worst drugs under the sun.

And as she walks up to him, through all that filth, degradation, and degeneracy, through the ravages of the years, she has an unnerving suspicion, and she asks, "Doug…Doug…is that you? Dad?"

Then Bill Krozby suddenly freezes for a moment, his mad gaping eyes like black holes, any remnant of humanity long gone, and he..he..

He picks up this newspaper, pulls some of the encrusted fecal matter from his pants and puts it between the sheets, then he folds it, holds it out towards her, and he asks…

"Would you care for a world famous Bill Krozbydog?"

And Her heart breaks harder than anyone's has ever broken in existence, like the finest vase ever created, a masterpiece renown throughout the world and revered by all, something that the artist spent his entire life working on, had just been bumped into by a deranged drunkard of a cartwheeling cosmic clown that came out of nowhere, slowly watching it fall as if it moves at the speed of a cherry blossom, 5 centimeters per second.

And it shatters into infinite pieces. The cries of a thousand lost and tormented souls encapsulating the broken dreams and ravaged lives of kristallnacht.

This, this is Bill Krozby the man.

I could posit a far superior question: Do you ever get tired of being a weak white, frothy cuck, former skinny smooth shaven twink, male prostitute, deadbeat father, paranoid schizophrenic, physically abusive, unable to hold down anything more than menial labor, fucker of nothing but the lowest quality women, petty criminal, likely sexual assaulter, recurrently addicted to numerous drugs, absolute shame to your parents, who you've brought immense grief towards, and all around degenerate scum of the earth, an abhorrent abomination that should never have come into existence?

Bill Krozby, you've claimed to be a catholic, so I can tell you with certainty: If your alleged almighty god exists, you are the only mistake he's ever made.

    Severe mental illness.

No, really, they actually do tend to have significantly higher rate. Just look at Lanny, a prime example of the kind of person whose natural predispositions lead them down that perverted path.

Vegetarian diet and mental disorders: results from a representative community survey
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3466124/

Vegetarians displayed elevated prevalence rates for depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and somatoform disorders. Due to the matching procedure, the findings cannot be explained by socio-demographic characteristics of vegetarians (e.g. higher rates of females, predominant residency in urban areas, high proportion of singles). The analysis of the respective ages at adoption of a vegetarian diet and onset of a mental disorder showed that the adoption of the vegetarian diet tends to follow the onset of mental disorders.

    And many more: http://www.google.com/search?q=veget...mental+illness

Just watch them engage in blatant denialism, attempting one of the most simplistic arguments of all, that correlation does not imply causation, when confounding factors have already been accounted for.

Of course you shouldn't rely on anecdotes, but those of you who don't suffer from in-group bias, or a bias against them, and attempt to see things as objectively as possible can think of vegetarians/vegans you have known IRL and will likely notice that they tend to be far more mentally unstable and overall less mentally healthy. As a group, they often contain some of the sickest people around, particularly those that are activists, engage in protests, and especially the militant. Feminists are very similar, along with those who strongly identify as leftists. Geographically, look at places that have the highest concentrations of these kinds of people, San Franfreakshow is absolutely full of nutjobs, one of the most dysfunctional and deranged places on Earth.

Sure, I think it's natural for most people to feel repulsed by homosexuality, particularly around middle school age, but I've continuously tried to develop myself mentally, to improve and develop stricter adherence to rationality and optimal thought processes.

Everyone whores themselves out in one way or another. Does the aggregate amount of disutility, degradation/insult to your honor, from a lifetime of working compare to a 5-10 minute blowjob? Why does a lifetime avoidance of homosexual contact seem so inviolable to you? It's largely based on natural evolutionary factors, gender roles, the perceptions of others, and the detrimental effects stemming from them, but I chose to rise past the level of a filthy animal driven by primal instinct long ago and shun human society, particularly the most repulsive aspects.

It could have its roots in schizophrenics, amusingly enough. Recall coming across a rough overview on theories about schizophrenia, how the prevalence is too high to be explained without there being something to offset the natural reproductive disadvantage, shamans in some form being or having been a part of nearly every culture found.

I've actually read some of the bible, up until the last book by Moses (allegedly), where I could bear no more. I have no problem believing these were the product of a deranged madman.

Ugh. This is so fucking tedious. Lol. At this point it seems like a rhetorical argument more than anything.

    You won't understand the argument.

It's also not entirely self-inflected since I was suffering greatly before all this happened due to various factors (Not the life I needed, autism and related problems such as chronic depression that's mild at least, low basal hedonic tone (how well you feel in a neutral state), and low hedonic response (how much pleasure/positive emotion you receive.).

There's going to be a gap between the end of the spring semester and the beginning of summer. I'll tell you what, I'll take you up on your offer to show me a day that demonstrates the things in life I've missed out on which may make it bearable/worth living. Not worth living because I'm happy, but because the lifestyle change makes life feel bearable enough.

I feel self conscious because I don't have any nice clothes, though, due to losing everything due to that series of events that gang member started.
