You meant WATER RESISTANT. I can't tell you how many times someone brought their iPhone 7 (or greater) or Galaxy S7 (or greater) in to me and said, "I was swimming/tubing down a river/water skiing with my phone in my pocket and now it won't work! it's water proof!"
No. It's water RESISTANT. It RESISTS water....to a point. And, a quality shop can restore that same water resistance when they repair your device. Like my shop. :) -

I have a phone.
It has it's uses. Notifications about e-mail/text messages when your phone is away/in your pocket. I use my watch a lot when my hands are busy with work, disassembling some device, and a work-related e-mail or text comes in that I need to check. I can just turn my wrist and read it. That's handy.
Aside from that, steps taken during the day if you're into fitness, music control like next/prev track, vol +/-, etc.
I actually get a lot of use out of mine. ASUS Zen Watch 3. Plus, it looks good.

2018-07-29 at 7:13 PM UTC in Why in the fuck do tvs have cameras and microphones built in?
Originally posted by benny vader in the city im living in they have started installing cameras in every intersections and junctions years back.
theres no escape.
Yes. That has been a thing here for quite awhile now. Every intersection has cameras that face you, to record your face and away from you to record your license plate number as you pass under. There is an escape, but you essentially have to completely abandon 21st century life and live in the woods. -
2018-07-29 at 7:08 PM UTC in My Pebble Smartwatch battery is draining fast nowPebble was one of the first "smart" watches, pre-Apple watch, pre-Fitbit, pre-Android Wear. Think of it like a Tomagotchi.

2018-07-29 at 7:06 PM UTC in Why in the fuck do tvs have cameras and microphones built in?
Originally posted by aldra if I end up buying a high-end one anytime soon I'm going to physically remove the camera/microphone modules, though I'm afraid it'll refuse to boot if they're not detected
They will boot, at least, any one I have come across will. That goes for smartphones, TVs, laptops, etc. The cam/mic is deemed as NOT ESSENTIAL, so it passes POST and the OS generally lets it boot. However, that isn't to say that a firmware "update" couldn't introduce such measures to ensure the cam/mic is always attached.
We can take certain measures to lessen the watch of "BIG BROTHER", but in an interconnected world, we're being "watched" somehow no matter what we're doing. When we use our grocery store member card, when we use public transit with some sort of transit program card, when we use our credit cards, when we browse websites online, just by owning a smartphone and the apps that have permissions to listen to the mics and activate the cameras, the shows that we watch on TV, etc.
You'd have to only work for pay in cash, only use cash, not have a bank account, no credit card, no smartphone, no computer or internet, no grocery discount/member card, no public transport pass/card, etc. Live in the woods, generating your own electricity by solar panels you installed to the roof, your own well you dug and tapped with a pump, and grow your own vegetables/manage your own livestock. Then you never see your family, go into town for supplies with a disguise on each time and never on a schedule. That's the only way you could even begin to touch on being truly anonymous. -
2018-07-29 at 6:56 PM UTC in Unfinished ProjectsMy projects probably aren't what most of you are referring to. Mine are hardware projects. I just get so busy and can't get back to what I was doing, so that equates to lots and lots and lots of hardware piling up, waiting to be completed. I usually get around to it eventually, but it might take a long time.

2018-07-29 at 6:53 PM UTC in My Pebble Smartwatch battery is draining fast nowIf your device is at the 2 year mark or older, you should expect some battery life deterioration. After 500 charging cycles, the typical lithium-ion battery loses ~20% of it's total capacity. That's significant. Coupled with OS update pushes from the manufacturer/carrier, you may see a huge difference in how it was when you got it new.
The solution? Replace the battery. -

2018-07-29 at 6:48 PM UTC in Why isn't it easier for members to complete tasks on internet sites?
Originally posted by Lanny Perhaps it's because the ADA doesn't apply to non-commercial sites and accordingly such sites are not designed with the mentally impaired in mind. I'm actually not joking, along with supporting low dexterity and screen reader users, part of the design validation process in my day job involves considering the user experience of people with like alzheimer's or whatever. Nothing super fancy, there are some guidelines like "instructions should be visible on the same page as the thing they describe" and just normal state visibility considerations you should really be thinking about before that stage, but sometimes it takes thinking like a retard to consider these things.
I can relate to this. In building my business, I have found that when I try to think like the DUMBEST customer I could possibly ever have, is when I make things clear enough. I was told that bit of advice from my sister-in-law. Design your website so that your DUMBEST customer can understand it.
So as I design posters or signs or even social media posts for the business, I always try to keep in mind my DUMBEST customer.

2018-07-29 at 6:44 PM UTC in Finding out who is around youSo what? You'd see the IP addresses of devices that went to the website and then what? You're not going to get any sort of identifiable information from an IP address alone, unless you are sucking the dick of somebody within the telecom company. So you made this website to harvest IP addresses and you used public WHOIS tools to look them up and have a vague geographical location on each of them. Analytics might tell you what OS and browser they're on. Then what? You're going to pull straws at which OS exploit they might have not patched yet to see how you can infiltrate them?
What is the point of this thread? -
2018-07-29 at 5:07 PM UTC in What coffee are you brewing lately?Coffee is a lot like beer in the respect that there is a culture of people who strictly drink fresh, French-pressed, roasted and grinded bean coffee akin to the craft brew faggots of the world. They will turn their nose up at you if you drink any sort of mainstream, popular brand coffee like you're some sort of heathen.
That said, I have been buying the whole bean Folgers 1800 "Black Gold" beans. I bought a $10 grinder on Amazon and it's been working nicely. I really enjoy the flavor of this particular coffee and I only drink black - no sugars, milk, creamers, flavors or other....ADULTERATIONS. -
2018-07-29 at 3:23 PM UTC in anyone know how to unlock a phone?Network SIM lock. Only the carrier can unlock this. There are a half dozen programs out there that claim to do it, but don't waste your time. Only the carrier can SIM unlock this.

2018-07-15 at 8:49 PM UTC in TOR on “smart devices”
Originally posted by aldra if I remember right Orbot has had some major issues in the past
I wouldn't rely on tor on android/ios for the simple reason that these devices leak so much data normally that there's no way to be certain all traffic is being routed correctly
This. There is so much telemetry going on between Apple/Google servers, TOR cannot be considered a safeguard. -
