I'm joking around but I'm actually offended by being excluded from the get go. I didn't expect that.

"I like you and I'm not trying to piss you off, but you're literally ignoring everything I said and it's aggrivating."

I'm sorry for that. That's pissing me off as well but I didn't intent on ignoring your points. I just don't have any answers or a strong opinion to be honest. I don't think a forum like you envision it will work nowadays but again, I don't shit. I'll tell you my theory later when you are back from school. It's interesting.

Aw, c'mon, share it with us here and now!

Honestly guys you just have to admit it's over. It's getting embarrassing at this point. That forum was dead before Jeff Hunter even pulled the plug in 2009. The reason was because it didn't have any potential even by 2006. By 2007 most if not all of the content producing members left. Even Radio Free Amerika and Technofiliacs was falling apart by that point.

The userbase simply doesn't exist anymore, nor do the technological hurdles that would vet a culture of readers. Nowadays everybody and their grandmother is online, so until there's new technology we're basically fucked.
I agree that it was in decline through that time. Times changed but totse didn't change. It still lured people like me in with it's 90's-tasting promises of knowledge and freedom. It's stupid, but it's really hard to come to terms with "the userbase simply doesn't exist". I mean, shit, yeah, everyone's on facebook or instagram posting pictures of their breakfast and it feels like everything good has died, but is that just a feeling? Is it real? Maybe this noise is drowning out all the signal, I mean, people don't stop craving knowledge and freedom in a 15 year span "just because". So did this need just disappear? Or is there too much noise? At this point I don't know what to believe, but I want to believe that it's the noise and that there are still people out there who live out these "totsean" ideals because, egoistically, I want to connect with these people.

Everybody here acts like they want old totse, but I don't they realize many of the members here and on other totse clone wouldn't be welcomed in the new forum they're begging for.
True, they'd be banned before they got out of the mud farm.

Anyway, I guess my point is that you would need to have a firm guiding hand of moderation in the beginning because Sploo's constant posts about his IQ and his "experiments," Iron John flooding every forum with jedi conspiracy (including oral indulgences), people spamming child porn and child erotica, posting up garbage, illegible posts, and all the other stuff people here claim they don't want but cry when it's moderated is the reason it never grows.

Honestly of all the Totse clones this one is the least moderated, and I think that's why it will continue to be successful. I'm thankful lanny made it because it's entertaining.

I know this is long as fuck but If you ask me..

There is one thing you could do to recreate something a little like what you're looking for that would most likely be successful. I'm thinking about doing it and opening it for discussion later. I have to go to class and get fucked by Calculus for a few hours.
I don't know how to approach this problem (moderation in moderation, excuse the pun) so if you ever wanna write about it, I'll definitely read it. How to combine freedom and the "garbage, illegible posts"? As soon as you cross the line and banhammer the spammer, you get outcries about censorship. I know that if you got a culture going then these things would sort themselves out. I've been trying to post things here that I'd like to see more often, but it's too early to tell if this works at all.

Knoweldge and freedom are cool, but just go on like one of the chans or something.
The chans don't provide a place for discussion. I like that threads here are open for days at a time, giving me time to mull over all that is being said or time to plan some new topics.

    What's the benefit of using:

    $()

Also if you copied and pasted it make sure you have $dir instead of $PATH because PATH is special syntax, i forgot. So i changed it to $dir.

Only stylistic - I prefer it for readability. I was sorta joking with the pluses and minuses, didnt know how else to say "good job".

I like you and I'm not trying to piss you off, but you're literally ignoring everything I said and it's aggrivating.

I believe you got trolled. But the points you make in this thread go well with the points you make in the other thread about forums.

Saving for later, +1. +1 for using spaces instead of tabs. -1 for using
    `
    instead of
    $()
    . Overall: +1. :P

OP, what makes your place different than this place? Except that it's completely devoid of any content at this moment.

Why are you guys actlng like something is going to happen to niggasinspace?

So many people pissed and moaned that all the other forums were way too restrictive, and now you finally have one where the sysop leaves us alone, and you created a new one.

True, but I remember totse as a place where outright spam was deleted and the spammers banned. It helped keep the signal to noise ratio a bit sane.

I've been bouncing around ideas for a community recently because part of me thinks that &t was the best it could've have been, but another part thinks that &t is passed and an &t clone won't work in these times anymore. Late 90's/early 00's was a time for internet forums, but is it time they were replaced by some newer way of creating and sustaining a community? The &t I know itself replaced a BBS with a forum, so maybe there's something new to try? I'm really attached to this form of being part of a community, but what if there's something better?

  7. LiquidIce Houston
I might have joined it if it was using gopher.

I know it's a little late but +1 for the bash idea - seems the simplest one.

Also, ubuntu has this "notify-send" command that will make a nice notification appear in the upper right corner of your screen. You can add it to the bash script so that you get notifications this way ie. "10 minutes remaining".

PhpBB sucks because it's rather insecure, now, as is the case with SMF you can tighten security if you know what's up but for convenience i'd suggest forum software that comes reasonably secure out of the box.

Also, isn't discourse like full blown Web 2.0 shit, with a ton os JS and Java and such, if it has Java it should be killed with fire.

Discourse = Js + Ruby on Rails. No java. Yeah, it's pretty web 2.0, which I normally cant stomach, but it actually works and looks good.
  10. LiquidIce Houston
vBul is nice, make sure you patch if you get vBul 5 it has an SQLi and XSS vulnerability out of the box if i recall. Also, MyBB is bretty good except from an anonimity standpoint, because it keeps logs of everything including PMs, which can be accessed by admins with two clicks of a button. Phpbb sucks and uhm, idk.

Why does phpbb suck? I remember it was the go-to solution... in 2006. What about non-php forums? I knows there's Discourse with a great look n feel.

It wouldn't be totse or pretend to be.

Basically it would be academics to discuss shit. I'm considering needing a .edu email to register or something (exceptions will be made).

So a lot of the topics will be highly technical academic stuff but the rest of it will be niggas talkin' shit.

Also there will be a library.

    Sounds like totse.

How much does it cost? Do I just buy a copy of Vbulletin and run it out of my house (I have a server)? Can I buy server space somewhere else? Vbulletin has a price page. There are free, pretty good alternatives. Hosting could run you from 2-10$ a month, a domain is about 12$/year.

How much technical knowledge do I need? Very little. It's pretty much point and click. Even easier if you get a paid product - you also get support that way. The more you know though, the better you can make it (faster, safer, etc).

What's the legal liability? Dunno, I'd be interested in hearing about this as well. I would assume any content you host will be susceptible to DMCA requests. You can have a clause stating the all posts belong to their owners, which I think remove some responsibility off your shoulders, but only to some extent (ie. if members post about crimes, maybe you can be charged as an accomplice if you know about this but dont report it). Anyone here got more info on this?

What's it mean? On this network, there was a password required to browse the internet but I was still able to ping other nodes before I had entered the password. The server was NANOHTTPD which I thought was kind of strange since I haven't seen any yet but I actually use it myself(for SSLSTRIP).

RIght now this is how I am running TCPdump…

We'll say I want to capture for IP address "192.168.33.121"

    tcpdump -nn 192.168.33.121 -vv -s 0

Should I be using -vvv instead? I'd like more data.

Edit: I can see that "org.alljoyn.sl" is https://allseenalliance.org, so it must be someone connected to the router via their phone…

By "On this network, there was a password required to browse the internet" do you mean that there's a captive portal that asks you for a password before you can connect to the web? The traffic looks like dns queries, the ip looks like a multicast (anycast?) address.

How to sift through this traffic? I usually had the opposite problem of having too much data ie. thousands of packets. I then captured packets with tcpdump, but analyzed them in wireshark because of them cool enhancements. You could try running it with -X to see the packets in ascii+hex.

    hahahahhahahahhaahahahhahahahhahahahhahahhahahahahahhahaha

These people wear leather shorts and eat almost exclusively pork.

So far this is the singular true statement in this thread.

Is the "New Thread" functionality not working occasionally a vb thing? Is it due to some custom modifications? I have a suggestion I really wanted to make :(

Edit: Scratch that, I see you can access niggasin.space via https except that the static assets don't load. It's only for the better - total 90's feel. I was going to suggest self-signed cert or lets encrypt, but meh.

    Posting in an epic thread.

    Waiting for more Malice/Lanny posts.

I think all the posters here share, to some extent, similar experiences and mental states. I think that the Malice/Lanny convo from page 172 is part of the same train of thought I had when I posted the Fuck Individualism thread, except more refined and better worded.
  16. LiquidIce Houston
No, why? While you're on github you better star all muh projects.
Nothing, just wanted to confirm something. Github makes all your public keys publicly visible and I wanted to confirm that empty page = no keys.

    Germany.

Do you use an app for it? Or some manual method? Im a bit surprised since in my mind Germany has a very conservative approach to many things.
  17. LiquidIce Houston
Jokes aside, this is how we learn stuff in school here. I'm honestly surprised that you guys don't use that technique.

What country uses this? That's pretty interesting. I have had rather shitty experiences with the education system.
  18. LiquidIce Houston
    I work for a company.

Everybody uses outlook (like most companies)

I know there email addresses (Of course)

    Just not there passwords.

Any ideas on how I can obtain without there knowledge.

    I have tried : http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/mailpv.html

But it comes up blank when I open it.

Do you mean the outlook desktop application or the outlook web application? How do you reset your password if you forget it? Does someone do it for you or do you do it yourself by answering some questions? I'd venture a guess that this will be easier to do in a non-technical manner ie. phishing, social engineering etc.
  19. LiquidIce Houston
Dude, plz dont just stick to technical topics. This is a great post. I was looking for a way to learn the Cyrillic betabet and this is exactly what im looking for. Anki even supports audio and video formats (as well as laTeX for math applications) so its going to probably be on of my most utilized programs. Thanks for the share this shit is fucking fantastic.

This is encouraging, I'm happy what I wrote has been of help. I'll post more about stuff like running or calisthenics.

I haven't found a use for the audio/image/latex features of Anki, but I've heard it's also really big in the community of language learners.
  20. LiquidIce Houston
Indeed they are. Hauwei routers do this. Here is some light reading on the subject. Protip: it's an abstract, research paper, patent thing but i'm sure you'll find it interesting.

    http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100107250

Good to know, thanks for the reading material.
