2019-01-04 at 11:57 PM UTC in Chamomile more like scamomileI really like making a cup of tea with a chamomile and a lemon teabag, together they're really nice, just a little sweet with that mild sour aftertaste. I used to drink four or five of those a day at work during the cold months, sometimes it was so relaxing I'd just put on some music and close my eyes and take a short nap in my chair. Good times.

2019-01-01 at 10:58 AM UTC in can we get some better stats and shitIt's not a bad idea, I wouldn't mind seeing a global stats page type of thing it in the software, but there are definitely higher priority things I need to get to first. Pull requests welcome, of course. If there are a few stats you'd like to see it's a lot easier for me to do a one off query against the DB and just post the results than build a UI for this kind of thing.

2019-01-01 at 3:36 PM UTC in can we get some better stats and shitgotta be honest, even though I use it as much as anyone else the whole thanks system is pretty faggy and reminds me a lot of facebook likes. The thing that I think makes it work is that NiS is such a caustic environment that we're all much more ready to dole out a "fuck you, you dumb cunt" than any kind of acknowledgment, even of things we agree with, so the natural bitter spiteful nature of this place acts as a counterbalance of the inherent circlejerkyness of a "me too" button. The saving grace of thanks is that they might count to you if you watch your thanks count but they don't count for shit to anyone else outside of the very local context they occur in. Making a leader board and encouraging people to watch it ruins the balance of it IMO.

2019-01-01 at 11:56 AM UTC in WTF is with people changing user names on this site?Like nigga, HTS put a highlighter up her beautiful butt more than a decade ago and we all know this. I pretended to be a girl for a gazillion years. Both §m£ÂgØL and captain take the dick. There are no secrets in this godforsaken hellhole apparently, shit I wouldn't tell close friends or my romantic partner is common knowledge here. There is no hiding from family, particularly incestuous rapey internet family.

Originally posted by gadzooks I sometimes I wish I was an admin simply to satisfy my curiosity about the IP's.
I posted unique IP stats a while ago in some thread, it's surprisingly high although of course skewed up because of (slowly) rotating addresses on consumer connections and Tor/VPNs. There are 46 accounts that have made more than 100 posts in the last month (ruling out bots, alts reg'd but not posted on significantly) which is probably a more accurate estimate of how many active distinct users there are.I totally believe in free speech; I'm like a zealot for that shit… But sometimes it can be a bit perturbing when it starts to feel like the same person behind a multitude of usernames.
I just want to know who's who to satisfy that strange feeling, not because I feel like they should be outted in any way for their opinions/views.
Lots of people create "alts" but stop posting on their former account. I think some people intentionally lock themselves out of their accounts just to safeguard their time and make a new account when they come back. Others might just want a different username, I switched up usernames a couple of times before I was Lanny long enough that that's my handle forever now.
I might be biased because I can look at IP addresses (and tor posters do stand out) but honestly I think people get too paranoid over alts. It's a small community and most of us have been here for a veritable eternity, I notice that every once in a blue moon when we get a newcomer or an old time poster returns they see someone switch accounts, or make a joke account that wasn't even trying to pretend to be a different poster, and they get the impression people are like astroturfing themselves or something when it was obvious who they are, and was meant to be so, to the regulars. -

Also no one is born gay.
No one is born with heterosexual sexual desire either, it's something we grow into and which is facilitated by social conditioning.

2019-01-01 at 11:12 AM UTC in Taboo Game Assigning A Mark That Doesn't Post AnymoreYee, this is definitely a problem. The taboo code is kind of a neglected corner of the codebase. It's not particularly bad, it's just deliberately pushed off into a rarely visited section and was kind of a drunken whim. But that's not really an excuse for it not working.
I pushed some code that _should_ make it so only people who have posted recently (last 28 days I think) are assigned as marks. I'd appreciate any help in testing it out. I changed the mark re-roll timer to be 1 day (so you can un-reg and re-reg every 24 hours now) since the re-roll didn't end up being as abusable as I thought it was going to be.
Also working to make the usertitles assignment not be permanent and should hopefully have code up for that soon. -
2019-01-01 at 1:11 AM UTC in How does Lanny remain a programmer/coder when his drug of choice is alcohol?
Originally posted by WellHung Unlike psychostimulants… it's not really known to be performance-enhancing. Furthermore, with all due respect, I do not believe Lanny is microdosing, either.☺
Programming can be challenging and mentally demanding but I've been in the same job for a couple of years and there's really only a handful of basic things that ever come up so it's pretty much autopilot at this point. Boredom is more of a problem than any of the work being difficult. Drunk programming makes it a little more challenging (although you kinda get used to it after a while) and just generally less boring.
Also these days I probably write as much email as code. The organization I work in is pretty dysfunctional and has a lot of systems with strict ownership, so I can easily spend more time trying to diplomacy other people into doing the work I need them to do than doing my own.

I thought the white plastic cases immediately following the iMac era were kinda sexy, then everything apple made until they took up the aluminum chassis separated split keyboards was kidna garbage. Also real apple fans use asymmetric astroglide. It requires a proprietary penis to use, but it helps ensure that only Apple Certified High IQ, Emotionally Intelligent, Metropolitan Creative Geniuses can have access to your genitals. -
