Yeah, I mean I don't think there are any wild cows but hunting deer or something is certainly immensely better than industrial farming. Obviously you couldn't replace the national level of meat consumption with humanely produced meat purely due to economic factors. I guess there's some ambiguity around if curtailing a natural life is wrong, even if it's done painlessly. Painlessly killing a person doesn't make it right but it's common to hear discussion of "interests", like your desire to accomplish goals and stuff, as being the thing that makes murder wrong and maybe this faculty is absent in animals and personally I'm kind of on the fence there but I think it's clear that anyone making the move from eating farm raised animals to more humanely generated meat is making a major reduction in the level of suffering necessary to support their lifestyle.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

Basically it kinda blows because I like the taste of meat but it's not too bad. I still eat meat from time to time, although I feel kinda bad when I do.
As to why, I think hedonic capacity (the ability to suffer or feel pleasure) is the basic criteria for moral considerability, I think there's overwhelming evidence that sophisticated animals like cows and pigs possess these faculties while the story for plants leaves us wanting for evidence of pleasure or suffering. Ergo the suffering of lower animals is considerable in the same dimension as (although potentially, and in practice, lesser than) human suffering. I consider human-like suffering intrinsically bad and therefore supporting industries that perpetuate it is immoral. I don't always live up to that standard, I make a good chunk of change for an organization that's basically satan, but I at least try to be honest on that point. And yes, average typing speed is in the 30s. I'm probably slower than your average developer but obviously it's difficult to conjure figures there. Why be mean? Because you've done something so absolutely terrible, and actually done it twice now, for no fucking reason. But the main reason is because you're so dense and self absorbed that you don't even realize what a shitty person you are for it. Everyone makes mistakes, even doing something so heinous could be at least understandable if not forgivable, but you should at least acknowledge what you've done. I don't know why you seem entirely devoid of any sense of guilt but it infuriates me. Everyone else in the world lives with what they've done, it sucks, it hurts like hell every day, but not for you and as a reward you get to go on traipsing around ruining more people's lives as if it has nothing to do with you.
