   but 10 million chinese speak english as a second language. pretty much anybody in business in china will speak at least enough english to hold a basic conversation and its reported that in the major cities in china its not hard to find people that speak english.
   
   also another factor to consider is china doesn't have just one language of 'chinese'. some speak mandarin and some cantonese, so often you will have chinese people who speak different chinese but both speak english as a second language and so will converse in english rather than use a translator.. as the world gets smaller english will be the natural choice for people to speak as they go forward.

   its a pretty safe bet that hardly any spanish speakers speak chinese as a second language and hardly any chinese speak spanish as a second language. englishes popularity as a second language around the world is what will make it the obvious choice as the global language in the future. its already considered the global language of business.

   No. English will not be the natural choice. Like I said, Mandarin is the most spoken. People learn English because of America. When America falls, people will stop learning it. Chinese will still remain the most populous people.
