north korea should resort to terrorism instead of nukes to attack america.

Turkey is now shelling Kurdish villages across the border and is preparing a large-scale strike against Afrin.

Oh boy. The bomblets the drones were carrying contained PETN (wiki) as a primary charge, which has been used in several terrorist attacks in the past... However Russian forensic testing has found the chemical composition matches explosives manufactured by/for the Ukraine military*. If this is true, it's almost certain this was a CIA-backed operation - they must not have expected Russian ECM to have been able to take down drones without destroying them; I would expect there's even more directly damning evidence on board that hasn't been publicly released yet.

*As I understand it, licensed explosives manufacturers have to leave a unique chemical fingerprint in their products that is registered internationally so that sources can be traced if their explosives are stolen or used in a terrorist attack.

I don't think he was serious, but I personally feel bad for the Syrian Kurds in this circumstance - most of the so-called SDF is YPG that existed before the Syrian war; foreigners from Iraq, Kurdistan, Turkey and wherever else. Syrian Kurds typically have no interest in seceding and I'd guess that the majority of those still serving with the SDF were those pressed into service. Considering the only active terrorist groups are now confined to the Idlib region, the only purpose of the SDF is now to start trouble with the Turks and the SAA - prospects that locals will in no way benefit from.

each factory has their own; potentially they could probably imitate a competitor's I guess, but they get verified throughout the supply chain

in terms of people making their own explosives, probably not - purity generally makes it easy to tell homemade explosives apart from lab-grade, and mixing in precise amounts of exotic chemicals is probably too difficult when you're making a bomb in the kitchen of your mom

what about state actors like russia ??? or even US for that matter ???

are they capable of this ??? to me it seems very likely.

Anything's possible, plausible though? I have no idea. IS might be able to give more insight but something like this can not be proven 100% nowadays

thats too simple of a question for a topic that is entirely too sophisticated to be posted.

firstly...the 'real' taggants used in explosives arent the same as the ones that show up in patents, publications, and legal documentation. secondly...i havent been intimate with the subject in a looooong time so i dont know as much about it as i did back in the olden days.

taggants can be something as simple and unsophisticated as gay little plastic disks with unique identifier code...like the ones that spray out everywhere with tasers...or something as complex as microscopic magnetic/polymer flakes...or unique molecules that are used for certain things. by 'certain things' it could mean anything that someone wants uniquely identified for whatever particular reason. there are entire companies that do this shit.

there are taggants that cant be detected (allegedly) without a specialized process to identify them and even then they cant be copied/counterfeited. the caveat being theyre so expensive theyre not in widespread use.

the thing with taggants relating to explosives is...they have to be added to the explosives and even then it only tells who manufactured them. if someone wanted to 'splode something and stymie forensics analysis, its a simple matter of either not adding any taggants or 'acquire' the explosives from somewhere else.

im not even going to try to analyze the drone-'splosives situation because it is entirely plausible that the stated origin of the explosives is accurate due to utter carelessness of the drone owners...just as plausible as it is a setup.

in making homemade boom-goo there are steps that are almost impossible (due to knowledge and equipment constraints) to replicate that a factory is able to take that leave easily detected signs...especially with the nitrogen-based explosives.

it is possible for someone that knows chemistry...or at least how to properly make 'splosives...to make any explosive with equal or higher end-result quality than a commercial manufacturer.

as a comedic side note...some of the impurities in the basement-made stuff has resulted in such instability that the stuff spontaneously combusted...always with entertaining results.
