the DIE is a TOOL for production,
the term tool and die itself is used as general, but the real good class AAA Machinists classify themselves as Gage Maker, Tool Maker, Mold Maker, Die Maker...
and as you can see Maker just follows tool, die, gage, mold which are all specific references to roll forming dies, toolroom dies, plastic injection molds, casting molds, water mold, and GAGE means you are the top Shark making the Mathematical Bibles :) -
