The second sex robots gain anything anything close to full locomotion and realistic orifices, they will completely disrupt the current sex industry.
You don't need to worry about the way they look, and overcoming the uncanny valley IMO. My prediction is that the robot sex industry will be populated by very basic (almost "blank slate") robots that will only be decorated enough that people feel more like they're fucking a doll than a robot (i.e. they'll try to disguise all the "mechanical" aspects.) This will be coupled with discrete AR markers or infrared beacons and a comfortable (I'm talking, you'll barely even know it's there) AR headset like the MS Hololens that will make the fuckbot look like anything or anyone you want, and in standardized lighting setups. The investment will be in the bot itself + the computers needed to run your sexbot AR.
It will create a cottage industry for porn asset creation, I basically guaranteed the Uncanny Valley problem will be all but surmounted, because you can pour all the computing power of a modern GPU into rendering ONE model. They will probably also employ some preset lighting setups that will allow things like raytracing so we can get turbo realistic. All of this is not new tech, all we're waiting on is a robot that can move realistically and autonomously without ripping your dick off.

I'm actually considering how much work this would be to set up. The VR would definitely be a nice touch but like you said, HMDs aren't there today. 10k per robot is not an insane startup cost around here at all. Even just as a stupid novelty, I bet there's a huge market in dudes who either can't or are too embarrassed to or too afraid to engage a real prostitute who would go for an above the board robo-brothel. Boys night out turns into lets-go-fuck-robots "as a joke" times a few hundred thousand residents. I don't know dude, I'm not sure how this isn't a thing yet.
