Originally posted by Eval/Apply Oh malice, using this account reminded me, if you're actually thinking about going to school for CS you should read Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs. No one really uses it as an introductory textbook anymore because scheme has fallen out of fashion but it's easily the one of the most respected books in the field. I read it after finishing school and still learned quite a bit from it. It's challenging but is designed to be a first introduction to programming for undergrads.
The lectures by the authors at MIT in the 80s are available on the internet and are pretty fun to watch. They're also really good if you can get past the hairdos and 80s videography.

Originally posted by Malice I never said I had PTSD as severe as they do, but I do have PTSD from about 5 major traumatic events that occurred over the course of a few days. I'm planning on writing about the abuse I experienced at the hands of the mental healthcare system soon.

2018-01-06 at 2:42 AM UTCIf in college they ask us to state our name and share a bit about themselves I'm thinking about going with this:
"Hello, my name is Malice and I spend all my time alone watching perverted Japanese cartoons."
What do you guys think of this? I mean, I have seen Eromanaga-Sensei 4 or 5 times and the Monogatari series is also one of my favorites, having viewed every arc released to date.
Lanny: Thanks for the advice. Also, is there anything you'd recommend minoring in to secure a job and higher paying positions in the financial industry? I have extremely low expenses, so after I save up I'm planning to return to college full time again to dual major in philosophy and biology, the latter of which would lead to something in the cognitive sciences/neuroscience, both of which are passions of mine. I'm confident that targeting the amygdala, the left hemisphere to be specific, is key to identifying and effectively treating autism spectrum disorders, but it would take an enormous amount of work to properly detail it.
LSD: No, this happened about 2 months ago over the course of about 3-4 days. It was a waking nightmare. -

That's like declaring you're s virgin and never intend to change that. If you end up saying that, I hope you get bullied relentlessly (although I know that won't happen, American college kids are too gay). -

I can't really think of anything you could minor in that could justify itself monetarily. Like maybe you'd look stronger interviewing for a position related to NLP if you did a minor in linguistics or something kinda niche like that but in general employers don't care. Maybe a minor in econ could look good, but the way it usually plays out is the econ people and tech people are separate in industry and not many people straddle that line.
Of course there can be other reasons. Even if it's not very valuable as a certification if there's things you want to learn then it can definitely be worth it. But purely in terms of money, if you have to pick between a minor and graduating even one semester early that extra ~6 months experience/money is almost always going to be worth more. -
