2017-12-23 at 4:36 AM UTCHangover is mostly a function of sugar content, so there's no necessary relationship between price and pain the next morning. JD is more expensive than like Old Crow or Evan Williams but produces a worse hangover.
In terms of buzz, alcohol is alcohol, I'm not convinced there's a non-placebo difference between types of liquor. How quickly/much you drink obviously does make an impact and that's affected by flavor and how you mix it, people tend to down mixed drinks faster than neat whisky and probably less in total (filling up on the mixer) so I think that probably accoutns for most of the difference people experience.
Higher proof alcohol is usually more expensive though, and higher proof is always better up to like ~110 in taste, buzz, and hangover. So really it's the alchol density you should be paying for. -

what i dont get is sometimes i can have like 7 drinks and be trashed, other times i'll drink a 750ml bottle of vodka over a few hours and have a BAC of like 0.4 but still not have double vision
im 21 in a week so im wondering what bottle should be my first (not high end cost). im thinking a bottle of baileys -

Bailey's is for women looking to spice up their coffee at Christmas or something. Get a decent bourbon in the $20-$30 range like Wild Turkey 101, Buffalo Trace or Elijah Craig. Beefeater, dry vermouth, and some decent olives (not that shit that comes out of a can) make for a good low-cost martini if you want to try a classic. -

Whiskey sours are the shit, the first time I made one was with Wild Turkey otherwise I don't care for the stuff it's not a bourbon I would enjoy straight though I prefer Knob Creek for that. -

True. Less of a hangover and a lot of people have this misconception that smoother liquors get them drunk faster which is kind of true but in reality they're just easier to drink thus getting them shit faced faster. -
