Originally posted by Malice Update: Moved in with my father. Unfortunately they aren't well off. My mother had breast cancer, she's in her 50s, although she's currently fine. I don't know what the remission rate is. After she became ill my father sent my sister to live with her, who took a factory job to help out. My brother later moved in with them. Father's staying in a single room in someone's 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment. Makes enough to get by, we can eat out every day because he likes to avoid using their kitchen. He's working as an electrician and helps out the rest of the family with rent. We're going to see them and drop off a huge 4 wheel drive truck he bought for them for emergencies. That roadtrip is going to be hell for me. Also, my landlord illegally threw away almost everything I own and I lost about $4,000 from that, although I'm trying to get it back.
Still depressed and highly anxious. My life is pretty bad.
Eating out every day, paying rent at two houses, buying large trucks for people,it sounds like hes rather well off to me, maybe he is just bad with money. Convince him to let you manage his money. -
2017-12-16 at 10:43 AM UTCNot really. It doesn't matter how well calculated the outcome might be, as soon as the player is aware that there are multiple possible outcomes that either lead to him winning or losing it is gambling.
You can always just go by the odds and base your calculation on that but as soon as you know that you either win or lose it's a gamble. More knowledge is not required to know it's a gamble. You can also do shit ton of research and only play bets that are highly in your favor, doesn't matter, still gambling.
The competence of the calculator does not impact what is and isn't gambling. If there is a chance of winning and losing, it's a bet and gambling. Not knowing if it's 0.0001% odds or 99.999% odds doesn't matter. It's both gambling as soon as you know there are two outcomes. -
2017-12-16 at 10:44 AM UTCGood to see you, Malice. How do you deal with human contact nowadays? How was it to meet your parents?
Keep your head up. -

I think it's a bit more philosophically complex than that. I mean for one "chance of winning and losing" isn't really a ground truth we have access to. Like next to nothing in our lives (maybe nothing?) is carried out with absolute certainty from the actor's perspective, if that's what you take chance to mean. Turn on the light and there's a vanishing "chance" that your house has filled with flammable gas and flipping the switch will generate a spark and kill you, but we don't really call turning your light on a gamble. Athletes participating in a contest usually aren't totally certain of their own performance but we typically don't call participants in sporting contests gamblers. I'd argue gambling is term that only has a meaning in a social context: some activities are gambling and some aren't and the only thing that demarcates gambling from non-gambling is what the community of people using the term agree it means. -
2017-12-16 at 11:08 AM UTCThe Trilliam is strong in this so-so in this wine, supposedly aged in scotch barrels, maybe it's got a higher ABV but the taste doesn't really reflect it.
