Water freezes at or just below freezing point (depending on impurities etc), antifreeze...prevents that, and also contains rust inhibitors. JUST THE FACTS MA'AM. -

Engine blocks cracking is only part of the possible problems, gaskets, hoses, radiator etc being much more likely victims to ice. Water expands when frozen, gaskets and hoses..especially older ones are prone to cracking.
A few dollars of antifreeze prevents that...AGAIN JUST THE FACTS MA'AM...no urban legend or myth present...and again, the rust inhibitors.
