Conflict Shitpile

  1. As for north Korea, they have, what, 10 nukes?

There was a CIA doc leaked that claims they have over 800 centrifuges operating as of 2010 or so. Once they have a well refined weapon, they can probably produce many more. I'll link the doc ifwhen I find it.

BEST KOREA - Looks like China's only trying to appear to help broker a deal, and they're not even trying that hard.

Even though they've publicly turned back NK coal supplies, trade is up. China has been effectively undermining punitive financial/political measures against NK, which lends credence to the idea that they won't tolerate military measures.

SYRIA - FSA (mostly Turkish-backed moderate jihadis) and SDF (US-supported Kurdish militias) have been getting into it north of Aleppo. It's apparently getting serious enough that the Raqqa offensive will have to be put on hold until it's sorted out.

Allegiances are messy here - technically the US supports both sides; they fund and operate with what they call the FSA and also support (to a greater extent) the SDF. The FSA are largely controlled by Turkey though, so they carry Erdogan's Kurd murderboner like a rigid, sandy flag, falling on the side of Turkish interests when they have to choose between Turks/US.

The SDF don't explicitly follow the orders of the US either; they're grouping together in an effort to fight ISIS but they've demonstrated in the past that they (mostly) want to keep a unified Syria and still support Assad and the SAA.

The FSA are inextricably tied to Al-Qaeda (despite the US' assurances otherwise), and the CIA exerts a large degree of control over AQ. The massive infighting going on among the rebel groups as they're forcibly collapsed means it's unlikely one is going to be able to (peacefully) exert influence over another though.

On a similar note, there are indications that ISIS is trying to merge with AQ - on the face of it it's very unlikely because both want to be in charge, but it's more likely if the CIA choose to broker a deal.

IRAQ - ISIS has fielded chemical weapons, presumably chlorine for the third time this week in Mosul.

There seems to be an escalating trend of the rebels using chemical weapons - I think I posted previously that SAA troops are reporting they're being attacked with Sarin and Chlorine up to several times a day now in north Damascus, they see plenty of injuries but few fatalities because they know what to expect and those units now carry respirators and antidotes.

It's strange that it doesn't make the news, not even SANA - I suspect they don't want to report on chemical weapons at all for fear of being blamed.

YEMEN - Saudi Blackhawk has been shot down over Yemen... By one of the UAE's SAMs.
  6. Aren't UAE and Saudi friends?

    'friendly fire incident'

I tend not to read BBC save the headlines, but the way they label the parties in the conflict is atrocious.

Saudi Arabia managed to get a puppet government elected in Yemen simply to be able to raid their oil wells. The president was inept in almost every regard, but had Saudi Arabia's backing because he allowed them to essentially invest a small amount into oil infrastructure and claim a huge a chunk of the revenue.

The president was overthrown by the army in what was a popular 'revolution' and exiled. Regardless, SA uses this as an excuse to bomb the country into oblivion 'in defence of the legitimate president'. Instead of referring to them as the Yemeni Army or people, they're always 'Houthi Rebels' in an attempt to make it sound like a sectarian war.

Trump seems confident that he can blow a devastating strike on North Korea and then follow this up with a blockade that covers the entire China Sea, north, middle and south. In his short-sightedness and arrogance, he thinks that nuclear North Korea is not going to be able to retaliate and that China will sit idle.

gone are the days that the US can push Russia and China into whatever position they want - if this analysis is correct and the whitehouse steams ahead, China WILL push back.

the extent to which chinkland will push back ends at a lot of sabre rattling and chuffing to save face. despite their massive military expenditures, their country is economically circling the bowl and any sort of destabilization that a conflict with the US will cause will result in all kinds of bad things happening...one of which is serious internal unrest that is being quelled by throwing a lot of money around.

How do you figure? They've poured a massive amount into their modernisation efforts and infrastructure is exponentially better than it was even 5-10 years ago... Together with India they're steadily growing in terms of tech market share, and both the OBOR and BRICS projects are expected to open huge markets to them

I don't remember the key points...I'm at work and can't google it, but it has to do with the ultimate source of income, being raw materials and cheap labor, no longer being as viable as it was. for example...they have stopped mining aluminum and methane because they literally have nowhere to store it. their laborers are starting to make noises of protest over wages, and desire to increase them. manufacturers are pulling out due to labor rates and shitty quality. that...and there is something going on with their stock markets and how they arrange the value of their currency that is having a negative effect on their fiscal viability.

    brics. brics is dead.

seriously...did you see what B did with the olympics? that.

RUSSIA - St. Petersburg Metro bombing appears to be the work of a Turkish group - Russian prosecutors have apparently traced funding for the attack. The group's name has not been released but I'm pretty sure it's the Grey Wolves.

There are actual gangs these days that name themselves Grey Wolves? Ha.
  18. aldra JIDF Controlled Opposition
The Turkish Grey Wolves are a nationalist group that likely get state funding... They've got a boner for the Ottoman empire and there are a lot of them in the Turkish military units that are currently interfering with Syria.

It's kind of amusing that Erdogan calls everyone else Nazis when these guys get his unofficial blessing and fly swastika flags.

  19. The media does not want to talk about Russia or Korea whenever this stuff happens they switch gears and tone down to anti Trump and when nothing happens they hate Syria. Am I just paranoid from drugs?. I don't have time to stay up all night reading this stuff and I refuse to watch the news I feel like I live in a false reality.

Part of it's paranoia but yeah, the popular media tends to report very shallowly on countries it deems 'enemies' or 'not important'. You can't just follow a single media outlet anymore (if you ever could); they all have their biases and agendas so finding the truth can be very time-consuming.

SYRIA - Assad has submitted requests to the UN multiple times asking for an investigation team to inspect the site of the Idlib 'gas attack' but they're being ignored. OPCW claims to be analysing chemical samples but have not been on site and refuse to reveal where they got the samples from.
