Like I said earlier, using language like this just removes culpability and helps you demonize the enemy while feeling superior with your 'free thinking brain.' These dudes question their beliefs just like you do. Many leave. Many never join. The few who do are often uber religious people from all sorts of different countries and economic backgrounds.
Just because you don't believe in what they believe does not make it brainwashing. Every human is responsible for their own beliefs and actions, and that includes people who were raised in extremist religious families. They are just as intelligent and free thinking as you are.

I was addressing the second part of your post. The first part is implying a mindless machine, programmed to obey, can be "brave". How can it be brave when it has no choice? Bravery comes from sacrifice, from having a choice and making the right one, not mindless brainwashing. -

The golden poison frog's skin is densely coated in an alkaloid toxin, one of a number of poisons common to dart frogs (batrachotoxins). This poison prevents its victim's nerves from transmitting impulses, leaving the muscles in an inactive state of contraction, which can lead to heart failure or fibrillation. Alkaloid batrachotoxins can be stored by frogs for years after the frog is deprived of a food-based source, and such toxins do not readily deteriorate, even when transferred to another surface. -
