Actually, the TelNet BBS didn't have a password. You simply dialed in using the phone number and your HyperTerminal client and you were on the Welcome screen. From there you could enter a handle (or not) and proceed to the BBS forthwith. No password required. No ratio required either, as most BBS did require to download anything. -
