I do readily agree that animals cognition and emotions are quite like ours.

We can live perfectly well without consuming meat, I've learned this first hand recently. It's somewhat more challenging to live without consuming any product that requires farming of animal products (veganism), but at very least it's obvious that meat is produced without the consent of animals. Would I be justified in violating such libertarian principles as non-aggression or property rights against other humans if it was what was required for me to eat?

Define 'consent' in the context of obtaining nutrition. Is a vine morally wrong for strangling a sapling to death, because no 'consent' was given?

All higher life needs to feed on living, or once-living things. Animal or plant, what is the difference, really? .

in a capitalist 'system', no one is stopping people from taking care of their loved ones and friends,with charity or even forming organizations like hospitalers, salvation army, or shriners.

No matter how the left tries to make their competition with the right into a life and death struggle, where the right are the heartless religious zealots, or overly moralizing hypocrytes, or darwinian capitalists, it is no big secret the left accuses the right of great evils. Oppression, racism, fascism.

Don't get me wrong, we on the right see the left as evil too, but it is a more foolish, stupid evil, not the way the left see the right as evil towards humanity out of malice.

I don't really get what you mean with the 'deserving' stuff. I am totally uneducated, so if you are referring to any sort of scholarly work, it will be lost on me.

IThe right is not evil, no matter how much the left wants it to be.. Right wing beliefs (I wish I was more articulate, all this sounds way better in my head) are just a system, a human way of doing things. It doesn't have to be followed to the utmost, and in a true 'right' oriented society, the left would be free to collectivize and share their wealth if that is how they want to live.

Also, I like what you brought up, pretty much everything you said encompasses the whole reason I am even on boards like this, and it even underscores my general outlook on life.

I am a far-right winger, almost to the point of being an anarchist. You remember our discussions about 'vigilance committees'. I believe that our society is entirely 180 degrees wrong about everything. We espouse things like diversity, inclusion, and fairness, but these are all the exact opposite of how reality works.

I believe the way I do because I firmly believe that competition and capitalism are very basic concepts that are almost instinctual to nearly all life forms. Competition brings striving, it brings rivalrys, it sharpens skills, it brings out the best in people. Think famous inventors, or feuds over women or material goods. I really do believe in people, and I believe that people can take care of themselves when left to their own devices. For the most part, we don't need cops standing over our shoulder all the time.

People can do things for and take care of themselves better than any 'government' ever could. We always have, and we always will. When people are put in extreme situations, when everything is stripped away that makes them human, what remains? capitalism, and competition. Think prison. Think war. Think frontier life. This is why I believe that the left is foolish and doomed, they are fighting against human nature itself.

would be fun to build one of these, but the main point is, this sort of thing is why banning guns will never work. any moron can make one of these from junk laying around in a garage. Better and more accurate firearms can be made using a lathe and some basic machine shop tools. This sort of thing is exactly what the 2nd amendment means. The 2nd amendment is our 'god given right, to 'bear arms', because, like god gave animals teeth and claws, god gave us the ability to fashion weapons from the very elements of the earth itself to protect ourselves and our family. A 'god given right' can never be taken away,, and 'the right to bear arms' is as basic as picking up a rock to strike at a wolf attacking our flocks. Even prisoners get ahold of weapons, it can never be stopped.

I wanted to focus on one particular narrow subject, though I don't care what direction the conversation in this thread goes re: firearm ownership in the U.S.

Just wondering, how are they going to reconcile the left's stated intent to restrict weapon ownership based on mental health, with the insistence on privacy in health care and stuff like HIPAA?

From my limited and cursory knowledge and examination of the subject (i.e. just off the top of my head) it would appear that it is impossible to flag someone for mental health reasons unless the bureaucracy in charge of health care records would have to be the same one that handled the mental health portion of background checks, if they are instituted. I think that HIPAA says something like, unless you sign a waiver, they can't share your health records with other agencies. Right now the FBI handles the background checks, and they have no access to any health records, let alone mental health records. Unless the law is changed, they will have to use something like the registry they use for narcotics, and it will have to be new, because I don't think they have anything in place right now.

I don't see anything good coming of this. And about background checks in general, the 'gun-show loophole' is bullshit. My parents have bought me guns before as gifts, should I have had to undergo a background check on fucking christmas day just to get my present? And what if you travel for work and your girlfriend is home alone, so you leave her a .380 or a 20 gauge to protect herself from nigger rapists? Should she have to undergo an FBI background check?

You all probably already know how I feel about the 2nd amendment. Do I really have to go into my spiel about how the 2nd amendment is literally our 'god given right' because god gave us the ability to fashion weapons?
