I like Evan Williams and I can definitely taste that sweet woody vanilla taste. Some other stuff that people describe, I wouldn't even begin to be able to recognize.
I do taste subtle differences, actually sometimes not even so subtle.
But can I actually label them with quantitative valuations for each so-called "note of flavor"? No, I cannot. -

Originally posted by GGG I have never understood the need for a chaser. Like, what, you wanna look like a tough bitch drinking liquor, but you also don't wanna taste it?
I'll admit I use a chaser IF I don't particularly like the type of liquor I'm drinking, or if there's any unpleasantness associated with it's taste or any aftertaste.
It's why I only drink Scotch when I drink spirits.
Anything else, and I need chase/mix. Even if it's just salt and a lime wedge (for tequila). -

Nihilism + resilience == hypocrisy.
If you continue to live and breathe, you are refuting nihilism. -

I'll be the first to admit that I have trouble finding firm foundation for meaning in life at times.
Hence my thread the other day asking everyone in SG what keeps them off the bus.
But I at least entertain the notion that meaning can be constructed and held on to with conviction, possibly even enough conviction to give it "intrinsic" value.
This so-called vacuous void of meaninglessness is merely one of many possible interpretations of reality.
And quite frankly, I will always be puzzled by anyone who voluntarily chooses that particular interpretation. -

Nihilism simply makes no sense. -

See this, this right here makes sense.
But it does not contradict what I originally said.
The things that one does to distract themselves are what they are declaring to have some sort of meaning.
Ergo, all human beings believe that life has some kind of meaning, whether it be malleable and flexible or rigid and unwavering, or whether it be precisely defined, or just an auto-pilot kind of thing.
OP seems convinced that any and all meaning has no foundation, and is therefore inherently meaningless. -

I am actually impatiently awaiting your response right now.
Where does your motivation to do anything come from?
Your brain's reward system is somehow compelling you to do stuff.
Otherwise you'd essentially be catatonic.
So what gets your serotonin and dopamine receptors all aflutter? -

Okay, if reality is such a chaotic and meaningless void, what motivates you to do what you do?
Why post things on the Internet?
Why eat, drink, be merry (assuming you experience any kind of joy at any time)?
If you do experience joy, even intermittently, where does that come from?
I'd really like to know what makes a true Nihilist tick... -

Evolutionary byproduct, maybe?
We need emotions to guide our behavior.
But, much like viruses and other disease causing organisms, they are just a product of evolution.
Consciousness may truly be vestigial. -

2018-12-14 at 2:23 AM UTC in Waiting for Purolator/UPS/FedEx/etc...Actually it probably would. I've seldom had hot apple cider though.
Cold, alcoholic apple cider, I've had plenty of.
But any beverage that is not inherently alcoholic, I tend to experience very little of. -

It’s been in the low 20s during the days. Got into the 40s today. First time above freezing all week.
Apparently it is currently about 40oF in Chilliwack tonight.
I've experienced much, much worse before, of course, but I'm kind of a pussy when it comes to weather/temperature.
I don't like any weather where I even need to consider wearing a jacket, let alone a winter jacket. -

Fireball whiskey, yet again.
I admittedly still haven't left for the liquor store.
It's a long cold walk, and I'm not looking forward to it.
I've still got a few more shots of Fireball left though, so I'm working on that until I'm ready to head out into the vast wilderness.

Originally posted by GGG What are some brands you'd recommend?
Glenfiddich is decent.
I haven't tried every brand of Single Malt Scotch out there, admittedly.
In fact, I haven't even tried every type (they vary based on where in Scotland they come from).
But as a general rule, the more aged, the better, and single malt is always superior to blended scotch.
Other than that, personal taste will become a factor.
Some prefer Speyside single malts (such as Glenfiddich), whereas others prefer Islay or Highland brands.
Scotch is an interesting type of liquor, with a lot of history, and some pretentious zealots / over-the-top fanatics out there.
I sometimes can't even tell if they're just utterly full of it, or really able to distinguish between such subtle nuances as how floral vs how fruity a certain scotch is, or if it's slightly more nutty than it is malty.
Scotch enthusiasts can be pretty precise with their alleged flavor profiles.
Say what you want about me being a pleb or what have you, but I just like it aged well and single malt. Beyond that, those subtle nuances are beyond my palette's detection.
