On upgrading to 1.19, 2b2t now uses Folia
WHAT IS FOLIAFolia groups nearby loaded chunks to form an "independent region." See the PaperMC documentation for exact details on how Folia will group nearby chunks. Each independent region has its own tick loop, which is ticked at the regular Minecraft tickrate (20TPS). The tick loops are executed on a thread pool in parallel. There is no main thread anymore, as each region effectively has its own "main thread" that executes the entire tick loop.
For a server with many spread out players, Folia will create many spread out regions and tick them all in parallel on a configurable sized threadpool. Thus, Folia should scale well for servers like this.
Folia is also its own project, this will not be merged into Paper for the foreseeable future.

Pretty cool, I wonder what implications it has for large redstone builds. -
2024-02-22 at 5:19 PM UTC in happy 2/22 to those who twolebrateYou been on lately? Wonder if moving to newer version presented any kind of performance / quality-of-experience improvements. WHAT IS THE TPS LIKE TODAY? ( I GUESS I BETTER PACK A JUMPER AND SOME NICKERS ). The server being like 6+ versions behind was a huge turn-off to me, THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING. Ppl say it is hosted in Sweden, maybe would have a better experience on an NA server. Is that WURST?

2024-02-22 at 5:06 PM UTC in happy 2/22 to those who twolebrateive been catching up on old tooby-tooty news. house monstere literary upgrated the game to 1.19 and dleted peoples stuff and reset some chunjks a lot of peepjle didnt like it so he rolld the deletions and chunk resets back. he was all like *mahhh TIGEEEEEEEERR, i'm deurrrrring it again!!! house meistro said he was sorry and honestly that says a lot about him as a admin
a lot of ppl say "not MY housemaster and say that its a different admin and THE SERVER HAS BEEN SXOLD, jeard.
how many donators are there ? literary is the performance goodly? afaik the MC server application is still very constrained by single-core performance. i propose we overclock the server to a TDP of around 12 Megawatts and get on a liquid nitrogen delivery schedule to turn that piece of shit up on high. i dont know if this could work in polane but here in Califo we could make it happen biggeley -

2024-02-21 at 10:10 PM UTC in going to work at fangI already know what time it is because I had a friend who worked in the googletown building in Mountain View, and he told me all about how they literally have tampon facilities in the mens crappers there. So I already know what I'm getting into.
Now as someone who has dabbled with HMTL before I figured I better brush up on my coding before I book an interview. Literally I hired a guru who has stolen their official FANG assesment tests from the big-guys and heres the sort of thing they will have u do on a whyteboard ( they really just put you on the spot becuase you have to hit the ground rolling at these kinds of places, theres no time to hold youre hand and shit when youre in the bigleagues you need to go in there and refactor lannys sloppy ass codeDAY ONE,ALL DAY and do some clever hacks you have been PRACTICING FOR THIS MOMENT YOUR ENTIRE LIFE OH YEAH I REMEMBERF THIS EXACT PUZZLE QUESTION FROM CODEHACKER-LIFE.COM WHERE I LEARNT THE PERFECT ALGORIGHTMYHM FOR HTIS ONE RARE SCENARIO! )SOUP OR NO SOUP
Please write a program which asks for the user's name. If the name is anything but "Jerry", the program then asks for the number of portions and prints out the total cost. The price of a single portion is 5.90.
my guru said he can get me up to speed in 30 days or less but i have to buy him somefthing "called a bitcoin"
Anyone else in the industry and want to meet up once i get on campus? im not used to this environment so it will be a bit of an adjustment im going shopping for my first tuxedo and adult tricycle already -

Originally posted by maddie I bought 3 thinkpad replacement keyboards off of amazon already, each time one button on it either is broken off the clip part way, or one will fall off easily but still clip back in. LOL, THATS effED UP.
Originally posted by Donald Trump I've had to replace the keyboard on my thinkpad twice, I keep spilling beer on it and then keys stop working.
i heaurd that, my X230 has drank a few gallons of budweiser ( it used to be my best drinking friend) it had to get a titjob after all that beer , heard.
It was a really good lappy and was my main compy for several years, i really "got my 7 dollars worth" out of that system, probably had ~200 or 250 bux in it all together. Too much neglect / deferred maintenance and I retired it - wobbly hinges from falling/ getting ripped off my desk by the cord dozens of times. Been getting hot and probably has needed thermal pads/paste for a year or two. Started getting difficult to get it to power back on / recognize pressing the power button.
I got a T480s to replace it and it seems pretty nice. I did a little research before picking that one. I think much newer than T480s they start doing away with ethernet port, start phasing out user-replaceable memory ( this model already has one module soldered, one replaceable), and other gay ass shit. I know I've seen one article of a guy replacing/upgrading soldered-RAM ( i think it was a hackaday post ) , i think one of his difficulties was just acquiring the right chips/modules in consumer-quantities.
Might be the kind of things were forced into learning/doing if we want to repurpose and keep old hardware useful/relevant for longer. Pretty annoying but if it actually pans out that way it would be kind of neat in a way, like China-style hacker shops doing intricate mods and shit in little storefronts. But I digressed!

2024-02-21 at 7:36 PM UTC in Dodgy deals on Ali ExpressWhat do you use them for? The first flash drive I bought was a 1GB Lexar for 80 or 90 bucks. We needed them to bring PC games and music to school.
Those counterfeit/mislabeled drives sound like an exercise in frustration to me. I went years without using a flash drive but got some recently. I got a 6 pack of 'PNY Turbo Attache' , went to set one up with a 'Windows to Go' installation with RUFUS and it took over 6 hours to do the install. And over an hour to boot from it. So I learned that budget/general-purpose flash drives can really fucking suck ass for certain things. They're probably OK for occasionally moving a few small things between machines but for small files I'd just do that over the internet, for bigger files ... I guess I might move it over LAN, but 500Mb-1Gb internet is pretty common here now so I might just still do it over the internet.
Anyway I looked for flash drives that dont suck ass and got a 'Samsung BAR', the same RUFUS install took about 8 minutes and it boots in a minute or so ( not really sure, feels pretty similar to booting from a SATA SSD ).
Also just got a little Thunderbolt->2230 NVMe enclosure, and used Samsung NVME drive off ebay ( used 256GB and smaller drives are really cheap , I think because people pull them out of new computers to upgrade immediately to something bigger. ) for a similar price to the Samsung BAR, and it's faster and twice the capacity, just a lil bulkier.
Heres the tests i ran on them
~5 dollar drive ( new );
~18 dollar drive ( new );
~30 dollar enclosure ( using RTL9120B chip ) + ~14 dollar NVMe ( used 'Pullout' w/ like 40hrs on it );
Did external SATA or PCIe / NVMe connectors ever catch on? I think I had a mini-itx motherboard that had eSATA connection(s) on the IO area - never used them. Would be cool if it was just standard to have them on the front of PCs. The pre-owned NVMe price and performance blows the other two out of the water except it needed a ( comparatively ) costly enclosure/controller for it.

I used to be more of the 'data hoarder' mindset. It's something I've been reading about recently. People torrent and have all these hard drives full of movies and TV shows, try to downlaod their whole steam library etc. But honestly none of it really makes any sense. If you aren't running a media server to bear the brunt of risk and do a media server full of stolen movies for your friends and family to use, I don't see hte point in keeping that shit around anymore. Literally if I watch a movie I wont want to watch it again for 2 or 3 years most likely. By then literally my internet will just be faster and it will probably be available encoded at a higher bitrate and/or using a better codec than I watched it last time anyway.
Steam games I used to hoard, but literally I usually only actively show interest in one or two games at a time. And they have fast servers so I can go take a crap and even a really big game literally is done downloading already. -
