I bought 3 thinkpad replacement keyboards off of amazon already, each time one button on it either is broken off the clip part way, or one will fall off easily but still clip back in. Also the very first one i ordered was meant to be backlit but it wasn't so i had to return that just to get another broken keyboard.

I've had to replace the keyboard on my thinkpad twice, I keep spilling beer on it and then keys stop working.

i heaurd that, my X230 has drank a few gallons of budweiser ( it used to be my best drinking friend) it had to get a titjob after all that beer , heard.

It was a really good lappy and was my main compy for several years, i really "got my 7 dollars worth" out of that system, probably had ~200 or 250 bux in it all together. Too much neglect / deferred maintenance and I retired it - wobbly hinges from falling/ getting ripped off my desk by the cord dozens of times. Been getting hot and probably has needed thermal pads/paste for a year or two. Started getting difficult to get it to power back on / recognize pressing the power button.

I got a T480s to replace it and it seems pretty nice. I did a little research before picking that one. I think much newer than T480s they start doing away with ethernet port, start phasing out user-replaceable memory ( this model already has one module soldered, one replaceable), and other gay ass shit. I know I've seen one article of a guy replacing/upgrading soldered-RAM ( i think it was a hackaday post ) , i think one of his difficulties was just acquiring the right chips/modules in consumer-quantities.

Might be the kind of things were forced into learning/doing if we want to repurpose and keep old hardware useful/relevant for longer. Pretty annoying but if it actually pans out that way it would be kind of neat in a way, like China-style hacker shops doing intricate mods and shit in little storefronts. But I digressed!
