So I said forget it and he said "nah wiseguy u aint leavin this store walking on two feet, you lastminute moterfuckers are all the same" and he pulled out his Jennings (which he apparently cleverly hides under the provalone)and shot me right in the buttocks

The modem/access point is around 330 US ( i paid a bit more for an added GPS radio built-in, also with external antenna connector ) , 30ea x2 for external cellular antennas, I opted to purchase a voltage regulator for $50 to professionally hard-wire the power supply in my vehicle but the modem of course comes with a typical 120v power supply, and for neater cabling i got matching right-angle SMA terminated coax pigtails about 6 bux ea. Used a few screws and bushings/spacers and electrical butt-splices I have on-hand to mount the device, maybe a couple bucks worth of misc. So about 455, and I still need to come up with a neat weatherproof way to bring the antenna cables into the vehicle so probably a few bucks more.

The first pic is actually sitting right at the edge of this building where it seems to pull the best signal . Honestly a Samsung 8 large phone pulls-in nearly as good up/down speeds ( yeah the phone shows LTE+ in this location)in the same location BUT my computer is across the building, so I have to leave my phone far away where it can pull a signal to tether and then I don't hear it ring or messages coming in. Now I have mounted the MOFI in a vehicle, which I park inside - in this location the MOFI outshines the phone far - the cellphone struggles to transmit out and it seems to take a long time for a request to get out when I click to load something.
With the new antennas external to the vehicle it stomps the shit out of the phone anywhere in the same building. If I was going to be here long-term I would probably throw a set of directional antennas on the roof - a lot of people use this unit successfully for rural internet where there are no other high speed options.
Now I'm in the back corner of the building with my phone in my pocket/ on the desk where it belongs , and with wifi calling enabled. Back in the corner here with a cellular connection it would be absolute shite service back here not putting calls through and constantly dropping audio in calls. -

where did you purchase it. I got a mifi for free and pay like 40 fucking bucks a month for 10 gigs to watch Netflix in my car while driving rideshare around or listening to music (so I don't Bluetooth off the device I run rideshare ap on because it just slows the GPS down and I make mistakes of pickup and dropoffs.. so I got a separate device to run music and videos)
Nah it isn't free service, I mentioned in another thread cheap sim cards from an MVNO that you have to put a valid card on file to establish service - they wont bill you anything if you use 200Megabytes/mo or less which isn't really much for typical modern websurfing. If you wanted to be weird I think they allow 5 SIMs / billing card so if you have 2 or 3 credit cards you could be very methodical about it and set the MOFI to halt access once you approach 200 megs, and swap out for another SIM. Not sure how long that would fly. I thought one of those SIMs would be cool with this modem for light remote surveillance, management, access control, etc though - no recurring charge for very basic light use.
With my current carrier this is probably quite a bit more expensive than vdsl or cable internet for comparable connections, with the advantage being mobility - and with good antennas it might be useful providing wifi calling/texting in areas that are on the fringe of service for phones. I don't really have any other option anyway but I kind of like the idea of taking my connection with me wherever I go.
