2024-10-07 at 5:30 PM UTC in Ban off topic posts in topical forumsIf you think a thread in a topical forum is being derailed by off topic posting I encourage you to let me know like soy did here. I’ll make an assessment of the situation in the same way I did here and step in if I find it appropriate. The report feature makes this easy. Just know that the subforum that a thread is in, and the seriousness of the opening post, factor into what exactly is considered off topic enough to warrant moderation

Well it depends how you look at it. No one knows why we're even conscious, and because we are conscious we seek meaning.
So the concept of meaning itself is an emergent phenomenon that springs forth from our very being. We know we are conscious, therefore we know there must be some concept of meaning.
If we weren't here, there'd be nobody to question the meaning of anything. But here we are.
So meaning only exists because of us. And because we exist, we have meaning.
It's actually a kind of responsibility we have. As far as we know, we humans are the ONLY agents of change, of thought, in the entire universe. In fact, we ARE the universe: we are the product of what happens when you put a bunch of hydrogen and helium in one place for a long time, eventually it starts thinking and that's us. We are the universe itself given form.
So it's our duty to give ourselves meaning, because if we don't do it no one else will. The universe is certainly meaningless without us.
What that meaning is, is up to us to decide. Some people believe there is a god and that's fine, that can be their meaning. But people without gods can have meaning too, we can find meaning in love and community and our accomplishments.
That's kinda what I think of "meaning" in general. I could get more specific but basically I think there is something else other than this, what we experience now. Some continuation. I don't know if that's a personal continuation of each individual, like a soul or something, or just life itself as a whole continuing in some form, forever.
But I think it's going somewhere. It's building to something. And we're part of that.
Maybe eventually we can become gods ourselves and make our own realities. Maybe that's what this is, a crib for gods. But that's a little more speculative.
Bottom line is, you're alive now. You can experience happiness and fulfillment NOW. You can do things that make you proud you did it. You can have fun. You can choose to do whatever you want and make the most of it. And that's not nothing -

Originally posted by Jiggaboo_Johnson Youtube/instgram/tiktok etc etc etc has both a "like" and a "favorites" option…liking something and favoriting something are completely different.
I have given 4,524 likes on this forum but only a tiny fraction of those I was call "favorites".
The idea you can use your "thanks" as a "favorites" tab shows the lack of thought given by the suggester…yeah I'm gonna trawl through 4k posts to find a particular 1…Such a b3ta idea and nothing to do with addressing the issue/request.
Fucking kids these days…too much education on transgender studies and not enough on common sense.
Again your argument is retarded and is based in wanting everything spoon fed to you based on a lack of technological literacy. My point is there's a number of tools and services both on this website and through third parties that let you bookmark a post as significant. "but i want a seperate one for the super duper special stuff!!!!!!!" I hear you wine, well my dear child, what happens when you now have 1200 favorited posts? then you're gonna write another post demanding a super duper extra special button because the super duper special one is too cluttered and it's not actually really what you want you just want to clutter up the website with stupid shit because you can't be bothered to use the tools you're already given (but you'll totally use the useless redesign of the existing tools!!!!! you pinky promise!)

Your generation really is the worst to argue with because you will provide evidence AGAINST your point and then sit there all smug like you just proved your point when really you just recited a logical fallacy your grandpa told you 69 years ago. -

2024-09-06 at 5:15 PM UTC in Why Does your Hair Change as you Age? Recently Did I Always Have Curly Hair?
Originally posted by Obbe I prefer blonde bombshells and always have. But you shouldn't care about that anyways. Tell me something honestly - why are you so concerned with your appearance?
My hair used to get wavey when it was really long in high-school but I just buzz it short now.
Probably because of the Patriarchy. lol, jk. Naw, I'm just pretty mind blown that my hair went from spaghetti to rotini. I was hoping Mash was here so I could ask him about his hair care routine. Also, I was home and had nobody to talk to about this facinating stuff with.
Also, I might be a tad vain. I like to look nice, nothing wrong with that. -

This means people do not get to keep the fruit of their own labor.
College makes you dumb.
The irony here is that it’s actually the capitalist mode that is fundamentally predicated on the alienation of labor. -
