your question is null. 'how can x work if the universe isn't perfect clockwork' applies to everything. radios don't require a deterministic universe. free will isn't even negated by a deterministic universe. and in fact, the universe could be deterministic while humans or life is non-deterministic. and if you look and think hard enough, you come up with the same answer that so called scientists have for why gravity works or why the speed of light is so and so.

"that's just how it fucking is"

It's important to point out that probabilism and determinism are not mutually exclusive. A system can be entirely deterministic, yet we might be able to only assess a probability for an event within the deterministic system.

In other words, probabilism does not imply indeterminism, at least for how the terms determinism/indeterminism are used in physics and philosophy.

A radio doesn't just randomly work the way we expect it to - it works the way we expect it to because nature is deterministic and predictable, we have studied it and learned about it and built devices like radios based on our understanding of the deterministic way reality works. If the world is not deterministic, things should happen randomly for no reason. That isn't how the world appears to be, so if determinism is an illusion why is the mind a meat radio? Why and how does the world appear to be deterministic if it is as an illusion as you claim?

Freewill is a sort of illusion. You are not the author of your own thouhts; that would require that you think about what you're going to think about before you think it. Thoughts arise in the mind due to a combination of forces, some of which you have no control over at all.

Basically morality is a personal and subjective sense of what is right and what is wrong. Ethics is morality from a societal or group perspective. It's ok to sometimes act in a way that you feel is wrong, it's actually important to an individuals survival to be able to behave "wrongly" in certain situations.

As you already said, you already have a sense of morality. But if I understand your post correctly your problem is that whenever someone makes you upset you act or behave in a way you would otherwise feel is wrong. To put it simply you lose control. Therefore your problem is not one of morality but of self control and discipline.

If you agree that this is your problem and you want to find a solution to this problem, you need to work on your self control. A lot of human behavior is surprisingly unconscious, heavily influenced by things you don't actually have a lot of control over. You could try to work on controlling your emotions instead of letting them control you, thinking before you act, maintaining a clear and alert mind, and realizing the consequences of your behavior and accepting the responsibility that comes with your actions.

You ever look into Julian Jaynes theory on consciousness? Parts of it are outdated but it's still a great work full of interesting ideas and connections and he basically claimed what you said above, that modern human consciousness as we know it today is sort of built out of language and metaphor. He claims 10 k years ago the humans mind was very different, and that consciousness as we know it developed at the same time as the written word.

Learning language changes the way parts of your brain develop. Children who grow up outside of normal society or who are extremely neglected and don't learn language have physically different brains and after a certain age it becomes impossible for them to ever develop normally. This clearly affects their mind as well.

It makes me laugh how hard you're trying to shit on this thread though. Whatever I did to you, it must have really gotten under your skin. I like how people are posting a variety of opinions on this topic, it's a lot of food for thought.
