    It’s always the one’s who’ve never produced a fruit of their labor that want to redistribute the fruits of others. Always. And if that’s not you then it’s the faggot you vote for.

    You stole that fruit from the plant.

    How climate change is driving up food prices around the world

    This price volatility is “likely to be an increasingly common feature of our highly integrated global food systems”, Prof Elizabeth Robinson, director of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, told Carbon Brief earlier this year.

    I like her more than you. You're kind of unlikable. Maybe you should take some advice instead of giving it out, single depressed woman in her 20s.

    This phrase, which occurs in Chapter III, constitutes Snowball’s condensation of the Seven Commandments of Animalism, which themselves serve as abridgments of Old Major’s stirring speech on the need for animal unity in the face of human oppression. The phrase instances one of the novel’s many moments of propagandizing, which Orwell portrays as one example of how the elite class abuses language to control the lower classes. Although the slogan seems to help the animals achieve their goal at first, enabling them to clarify in their minds the principles that they support, it soon becomes a meaningless sound bleated by the sheep (“two legs baa-d”), serving no purpose other than to drown out dissenting opinion. By the end of the novel, as the propagandistic needs of the leadership change, the pigs alter the chant to the similar-sounding but completely antithetical “Four legs good, two legs better.”

    I'm suggesting that perhaps mankind is irredeemably corrupt, and therefore would not ever be able to achieve the dream of social utopia.

    This is not necessarily my personal opinion, just an argument.

    Tiger got to hunt,
    Bird got to fly;
    Man got to sit and wonder, "Why, why, why?"

    Tiger got to sleep,
    Bird got to land;
    Man got to tell himself he understand.

    Compatibilism amounts to nothing more than an assertion of the following creed: A puppet is free as long as he loves his strings.

    Losing a belief in free will has not made me fatalistic—in fact, it has increased my feelings of freedom. My hopes, fears, and neuroses seem less personal and indelible. There is no telling how much I might change in the future. Just as one wouldn’t draw a lasting conclusion about oneself on the basis of a brief experience of indigestion, one needn’t do so on the basis of how one has thought or behaved for vast stretches of time in the past. A creative change of inputs to the system—learning new skills, forming new relationships, adopting new habits of attention—may radically transform one’s life.

    How can we be “free” as conscious agents if everything that we consciously intend is caused by events in our brain that we do not intend and of which we are entirely unaware?

    Scientists are trying to figure out why 2023 was so hot.

    What happened in 2023 remains a riddle that has piqued intense curiosity from climatologists, but Dessler says finding an answer won’t change the fact that global warming, caused by human activity, is still happening with no end in sight.

    “We now have the technology to stop doing it, to stop warming the climate mostly,” Dessler says. “The other thing that matters is the reason we’re not doing it is because of the politics, and because of how immensely powerful fossil fuels are as a special interest.”
