I've long suspected them to be contractors or sub-contractors for counter-terrorism operations.
Due to the fucking "Anonymous" phenomena, bringing "the hacker underground" into the spotlight years ago, these guys have been performing targeted Ops against ISIS and their assets and have been getting showered with praise by everyone on social media. Which is interesting because the article goes on to say: "What it showed was the same people that worked for US agencies and trained them were using the same tools and methods on Americans that they used for terrorist hunting. And they brag about it in social media."
GhostSec is a bit less prominent these days, but they were big a little while ago.
Interesting indeed. Contractors hacking contractors hacking contractors in endless proxy hacks. A great game is afoot and has been for a long while, and since i've glimpsed it, i can't help but marvel at the chaos.
if they're attacking the states enemies then they're working for the state, clearly.
