you're looking at a daughter as a piece of property like a car or house or something. it's called objectifying women. your future son-in-law doesn't take your daughter from you and replace you, like when somebody has their car or house stolen. he's not taking her from you because you do not own her in the first place. you gave her life, you nurtured her and invested in her existence and future, sure. but she is still a human being just as much as you are, and just like you, she owns herself. you don't own her anymore than your parents own you. that's how it works, each generation works to raise the next generation in return for having been raised by the previous generation themselves. its more like you assist your daughter with her development to compensate your parents who invested their time and money etc to assist you with your development into a capable and functioning human being. and they did that in return for your grandparents efforts towards themselves. your daughter will repay you(hopefully, i guess ???) by assisting your future grandchildren with their own development into capable and functioning human beings.
