I think sintering is weaker but I see tech more for its future potential, I think we will use AI to control large scale multimaterial 3D printing machines to create complicated machines on-order at first until the tech just gets so damn good that the gap between "stuff used to prototype 1" and "stuff used to mass manufacture 10 million" diminishes to basically nothing.
"3D printing" and automated manufacturing et al will just converge and blur into one
That will realistically be the closest we will ever come to Star Trek replicators.
You will have different scales of multimat assemblers/printers.
I have been interested in the Japanese vending machine culture, market and industry recently.
I saw a video about Japanese coffee vending machines with a cute little "virtual barista experience" on a small LCD screen on the face of the machine.
Some had a prerecorded video of a fancy cafe preparation, some showed a live camera feed of the coffee being prepared inside the machine.
There is enough specialized processing involved in consumer end products that probably a "general purpose replicator" is of a totally different tech scale than we have now and instead existing different classes of vending machines will just expand in their capabilities until there is significant overlap and they can be rolled into fewer categories that can be adapted for broad ranges of products.
Only with powerful enough lasers can you manipulate matter at a fine enough scale and then you need many non laser materials to manipulate.
I think with AI, the "customer service experience" will eventually converge to where each vending machine will essentially have a little virtual daemon inside whose only purpose is to generate perfect and novel to-standard customer service experiences personal to each customer, in stupid little use cases like vending machines, because that R&D and tech is much much cheaper and more scalable ultimately than real coffee shops with human baristas.
In combination with basic laser economics, this means we will eventually be able to create custom laser based products including 100% laser based nutrition. -

2023-01-31 at 1:53 PM UTC in The TRT Thread: Its the end of the world as we know it so GET WHOLESOME editionIt's not about actually physically destroying the pilot's eyes, it is that your average laser pointer is only so well-collimated over distance and at the typical distance to a chopper is about half the size of the windshield, creates mad glare so when protestors start focusing like 20 pointers at 1 chopper, it becomes genuinely hazardous to stick around.
