I know right, everywhere I apply says that they are looking for higher skilled labor. Looks like I'll have to settle for less.

Hey guys I been at Five Guys for 2 weeks and I already quit. This was my first ever job and fast food work was quite a shock to me. I worked part time so 15 hours a week and 5 hours each day on Friday to Sunday. And I worked the morning shift prep till afternoon btw.

The interview process was pretty easy and I realized that my boss only hired me because of my wide availability as someone who had no prior job experience. I watched the many training videos but had so much trouble keeping up with them since they were long and boring. There were so many things that I could memorize at a time and I thought a hands on approach was better for my learning than theory based learning. I personally thought that I ended up doing most of the training on my own as my boss was quite unhelpful most of the time.

Come the first day, I started with carrying/sorting the potatoes, cutting them, taking out the trash, and lobby sweeping. Pretty basic tasks but it was a lot for me to remember at once. I even had to be told basic things like how to sweep and shit since I come from a sheltered upbringing (ik not an excuse). I know there is a business to run and my slow pace was my fault. I legitimately felt bad about it and tried to work my absolute hardest but it still was not good enough. I though it was whatever as it was my first day and I would get better eventually.

The next few days were kinda the same but I picked up more responsibilities like being out in the kitchen flipping the patties and making the burgers so in a way I was improving albeit super slowly. My boss kept saying this is a fast paced environment and I understood that but she was annoyed with me. I apologized and told her I will do my best to not make that mistake again. I even managed to cut the potatoes a bit closer to 30 minutes (it took me 50 minutes to do 6 bags I know it's slow). I guess I was too slow to do my jobs so I didn't leave enough time for my boss to train me on other things. But even if I had time to get trained on other things, I would prefer mastering whatever I was learning first then moving on to other things. I was slow in my tasks partly because I was incorrectly doing the tasks(like misinterpreting the FIFO thing in the walk in), not trying to hurt myself when lifting, and that I was trying to be super perfect.

I messed up quite a few times. One was when I forgot to clock in and my boss was very annoyed understandably. I accidentally kept a sink running and had to squeegee it. And I cleaned tables even though they were clean enough which wasted time. I dunno I guess I lack common sense.

Things started to get bad on my 4th day. I started to get the routine down but my hours were cut from 15 a week to 5 a week. My boss told me if I wanted to get more hours, then I had to get better. I was aware that I had to get up to pace but the only way I can get better is working more so I can memorize the routine and iron out my skills.

It gets worse. My last shift(my 5th day I think) before I quit, it was super windy like 20 mph winds and I think it was like 20 degrees F, and I had to take out the trash. I didn't know if I was supposed to leave out the trash bin inside or outside but I took it out with me. I was already behind on schedule so I couldn't grab my jacket and tried to hurry up. Now there was a gate on the stairs where you exit and I didn't know if that was supposed to be locked or whether I should have secured it. I held on the bin the best I could and almost fell what I think was a 7 feet drop to the ground. Had to let go of the bin to save myself and a bit of trash spilled. There is a camera that watches the back and the stairs I almost fell off of so I am pretty sure my boss was aware of this but has yet to address that to me. I think I took out the trash "wrong" but that shit was not worth my life especially when I made dirt money and did not have health insurance. Even though I quit, I plan to address this to my boss and hope she explains or does something about it.

Besides the doomposting, a few good things I liked about Five Guys was the high standards they held for cleanliness, the free food, nice coworkers, and the machine had barqs cream soda which was good asf.

Pretty much I was slow which was due to my slowness and perfectionism which resulted in my hours getting cut a lot. And getting into a close call injury was the last straw.

    Thanks for listening y'all.

Well weed is legal in IL so hopefully I'm good.
  17. Why wouldn’t he just assume it’s a nic vape? Also if it’s legal who gives a fuck

I'm 19. Even though I have a medical card and it's legal, I'm not going to just straight up tell him that on my first day.

It would literally probably put you in a favorable light. That shit is basically a prerequisite for working in a restaurant kitchen setting.
