I'm taking elementary Japanese to fulfill the graduation requirement (I took two years of Spanish in high school, but I can't remember if I received a C or better every time (I probably did) and don't really want to use anything from my highschool transcript because my grades were so low due to refusing to do most of the work), for cognitive exercise, and out of personal interest. The class moves pretty fast.
I'm thinking about printing out an entirely blank hiragana chart and asking if I can use that instead of the standard quiz, which is on Monday, that has a lot of them filled in because I want (to show off) more of a challenge.
Ah yeah, I have a copy of genki on my shelf. Honestly I haven't even finished the damn thing. My focus for the last several months has been much more heavily on vocab building than grammar, not so much as a strategic decision, just because it's easier to fix vocab review into the gaps in my day (like probably 80% of my review time is on the bus). Are you using anki or some other SRS? Once you get used to it, it's like a superpower. And if you use anki you'll be running some software I wrote (in very small part).
College level languages courses (even introductory ones) definitely do move fast, I think very few people find it to be a comfortable pace but you learn a lot. If you do it for a few semesters you'll probably be ahead of me since I'm just plodding along slowly. Do you think you'll stick with it after fulfilling your requirement? -

There are too many bullshit class I have to slog through that are going to eat up my time. I also don’t have much of a use for it other than being a weeb and improving my comprehension of the fruits of Japan.
