I never bothered to look into it considering there's been literally zero evidence presented for the 'russian interference' narrative thus far. just skimming over an NYT article now it appears they've forgotten the evidence again.

If it's true and the Russian government actually is buying out social media ads, it's a solid, slow-burning tactic - by promoting extreme left and right groups they're effectively removing the middle ground and making them more and more aggressive toward each other...

Though that's been the way of 'democracy' in the west for the past few decades. This is nothing new; it's literally just a continuation of identity politics into social networks. In all likelihood (assuming there is some actual basis for Facebook to claim Russian ownership) the people who set up the pages are actually US citizens who used foreign proxies to set up those pages and groups for fear of being tracked by Facebook or the government - fringe groups on both the left and right tend to distrust them. Come to think of it, for advertising, they may have simply traced transactions back to sketchy Russia-based currency traders like Webgold/Egold and the like

its utter hypocrisy for the MINITRU to make those accusations against the rooskies when virtually every 'news' article published is intended to cause strife (Im not saying that word is copyrighted...but I specifically used that word in many, many facecrap posts years and years ago...an now the media is using it?) in one way or another. race-A vs race-B...sports-enthusiast-A vs sports-enthusiast-B...elections-party-A vs elections-party-B...generation A vs generation B...income group A vs income group B...

    fucking lol

actual data hasn't been released publicly yet, but the NYT has apparently seen the list of ads (https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/09/technology/russia-election-facebook-ads-rage.html) and they're virtually all US-written material - far left and right news and opinion articles that were ostensibly promoted by people in Russia or using Russian accounts.
