When I tell my son to pick up after himself and he says no, then I pull out my belt and tell him one more time. There's no reward like that for being responsible for your own mess. I do tell him thank you and let him know that I appreciate his help. Sometimes, if he doesn't bitch and whine about it, maybe I'll get him an ice cream or some other goodie snack or cheap toy, but that reward is for doing what he's told without resistance. He's a very headstrong kid, but rewarding him with small things for cooperation does seem to work as long as he knows that his reward is for cooperation not for meeting his responsibilities. You have to make that distinction clear otherwise children will believe the latter.

That is a sign of not knowing how to parent, that you need it. You only need it now because you've already set the foundation for needing it. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but you never need to hit your children if you've parented right. -

Then we're not talking about the same thing. A fucking allowance doesn't equate to entitlement and 'not being a decent human being.' Obviously there are a myriad of factors that play into how a child develops and how they turn out. Allowance isn't a bad practice. That's what I'm saying. Nothing more, nothing less. -
