If its anything like LADWP, they calculate your bill by some algorithm involving your average usage of the last 3 months. So if you used more than average, theyre billing you up the butthole. Request to have someone come out and physically read your meter/

AEP has pulled this on me before, which is total shit since I’m not on a budget plan. AEP is electric in most of Ohio, and Columbia Gas is gas in most of Ohio. They both do this. I’m glad I’m all electric now.
Also Fona, those big old houses like you’re in, with the tall ceilings and hardwood floors are heat guzzlers unless you have newer windows, which I doubt with your cheap O landlord. I love those old houses, but they suck to heat in the winter.

I have aep and my bill reflects my usage. I've read my own meter before, there was no jedi mind tricks. It wouldn’t surprise me if that's his true usage. His poorly insulated house is about that size, and his thermostat is on 70°f.

That's about 2 electric heaters.

Electricity is convenient, but is also just about the most expensive way to heat a house. That's why people try to heat their houses with something besides electricity, like oil or wood.

I used to have gas in all my homes till this one. It cost me twice as much to heat my home. My home was built towards the end of the “coal crisis”, in the early 80s; it was built for efficiency. My electric bill for an entire home in the winter is between $100-$230 max. The $200 bills were when were were in negative temperatures for 3 weeks. My average monthly bill is $130. Yes $130 for an entire house and my husband is not an energy conserver like me. I grew up with parents who lived through the Great Depression, I know about conservation.

What Casper is saying is that they didn’t read his meter the last few months, so when they did read it this last time, they realized that they “guessed” wrong on the prior months. So now they’re playing catch up.
