I havent watched or checked the weather in ages. I check the weather by walking outside. During hurricane Debbie a few years ago, all I knew is that it was raining sideways and we smoke outside so we had a big umbrella and wore trashbag ponchos, after a while I finally glace behind me and see my neighbors house in nearly flooded (they are assholes, I was happy). Anyway, I finally go turn the tv on and see, fuck! All ways in and out of our town are closed and so was I-10! I was laughing so hard because our retarded redneck neighbors further up had drove back and forth from town probably a dozen times (certainly they were looting I imagine) despite the road closures. -

Right now I am emptying the whole thing, I guess, got the hose going down the driveway, and its flowing, I got the tap open, pressure valve open, everything is fine. The main water to the house is turned off atm.
so, after it empties, I turn the water supply back on, run water into it and just let it flush out for a couple hours, or what?
Or should I be flushing it out this whole time?
first, and most important thing: NEVER TURN THE WATER OFF TO A WATER HEATER, THEN SUBSEQUENTLY EMPTY IT WITHOUT ALSO SHUTTING OFF THE POWER. IN OTHER WORDS, A WATER HEATER SHOULD NEVER BE EMPTY OF WATER WITHOUT THE POWER BEING SHUT OFF.
what you posted should work. having the hose lower than the water heater helps siphon it out. this is done either by switching off the circuit breaker or pulling out the disconnect. or...pulling the fuse if its an antique house
hours shouldnt be necessary but if there are large amounts of 'shit' coming out after awhile (awhile isnt a fixed amount of time...every one is different depending on how much 'shit' is in the municipal water supply) you have more problems than just flushing the heater. a rough guess is...half hour is the max amount of time before 98% of the shit is out. youll rarely get 100% of it out. point of diminishing returns and such
the first dozen or so gallons...depending on the size of the water heater...is when the majority of sediment should flush out. watch the end of the hose. once the sediment coming out is almost non-existent you can button everything back up. MAKE SURE THE MUNICIPAL WATER SOURCE IS TURNED ON BEFORE TURNING THE POWER BACK ON. -
