Yes you can. Most people do. That's why we have a functioning society.

    Nope.

Most people who suffer from clinical depression, continue to suffer from it even if they continue to hold a normal life together. The same way a cancer patient can if it ain't too bad.

I've written about this before in my personal case. I deal with it without medication, so it sucks. If I had a worse environment or headspace, I can totally see myself giving in. I don't know what spark behind my eyeballs keeps making the right choice amongst all the wrong ones that come up, but I have absolutely no guarantee it will do so tomorrow.

The fact is, it is a disease, denying it doesn't mean you don't have it. Might as well deny gangrene.

Yeah thats true. I think what §m£ÂgØL is trying to say though is that there are practical steps you can take to mitigate the effects of depression. Whats true for me is not necessarily true for everyone- but I for instance, had really bad depression all these years. All the shit ive written about. Im still not wild about living at home, being on methadone, the job im working. But as soon as i stopped heroin (although i still on methadone, so i cant think stoping heroin alone would be possible for the reversal?), started taking CBD, eating better, exercising, reaching out to people i hadnt talked to in a long time, talking about trying to get clean and my depression, etc....id say like 90% of my symptoms are gone. Taking action in a lot of cases can actually cause your brain to start producing the right neurotransmitters again. Theres no telling if any of that wouldve worked for Justin, but the fact is that he really didnt try too hard. School was a good start, but boxes of assorted chinese RCs do not constitute "doing stuff to get better"

Literally everybody would be diagnosed with something if they went to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Does everybody in the world need treatment? You aren't special or 'chemically imbalanced' because you get diagnosed with depression.

This. Most depression is environmental. Start doing shit, change the environment, change your thought process, change your brain chemistry.

Not everybody is in a position to take those actions, whether they are informed by a Mexican or not. Have you ever fallen into a depressive spiral? Do you not remember what it's like to actually make those decisions?

Obviously you can do things to help mitigate it but it is literally a matter of the bullshit flowing inside your skull. Even if you're in the best place in your life, it will still impact you.

Conversely, consult a fucking doctor who will largely actually help you implement behavioural and environmental changes, and give you the medication necessary to change the actual, physical dysfunctions affecting your brain.

My primary objection was to §m£ÂgØL saying you shouldn't go to a doctor because "now you're ill" is retarded: you already have a pathology, that decision will only serve to make you ignorant of it. They also help you not feel like your depression is something that controls you. Whether or not you acknowledge that's what is going on or live in denial of it makes only that difference, and what comes after.

It just retarded advice to tell someone to avoid seeking professional help. In fact it's actively harmful advice.

This is million x true for stuff like autism, you're just going to create more Elliot Rodgers.

You are not a doctor. §m£ÂgØL is not a fucking doctor. Usually people suffering from depression aren't doctors (med students are not doctors). People suffering g from those issues are doing so because they are failing to cope with them. They obviously need outside help beyond Niggasin General.

That's not what I said. I never said nobody should go to the doctor. That is completely out of your mouth. I said I had qualms about it, because a lot of people get diagnosed and then act like victims when their situation is totally fixable through hard work. Because, as I've said, these doctors exist only to diagnose and treat people with mental illnesses. It's not like a physician where they can objectively tell you something about your body.

A majority of the diagnoses handed out are based on phenomenological report. I.e. "What hurts? Does this hurt?"

They do the same for your brain.
