If you're curious about why that is, I could literally write you a book on why the decision to eliminate your meat intake is going to socially impair you in the West. Furthermore, we have no legislative foothold, so we can't actually make you do anything. We have very little influence in the world, so sometimes we do have to get a bit loud if we want to be heard.
I suspect you're annoyed by all of this morality because you refuse to examine your own moral values. There's nothing inherently wrong with that; you've been clear that you don't have room for moralistic changes right now. I get it, I'm not an evangelist and you don't need to mount an assault on my ideology to protect yourself. But we are here to argue, aren't we? Argue with our philosophical ideas, not the disposition of our younger peers.
well i don't see any freds titled 'we have a moral obligation to eat meat'.

2018-03-07 at 8:01 AM UTCTo be honest, you're more likely to get me to stop eating meat by telling me the health benefits over moral ones

Morals are individual guidelines. Ethics are group guidelines. You are welcome to your own set of morals but expectations that others observe them is going to disappoint you. -

2018-03-07 at 11:31 AM UTCI remember back in the day how smug I'd feel for being vegetarian. The thing is, the feeling of superiority you get is the exact same as a Muslim gets for keeping halal, or jedi gets for keeping kosher. It's something that makes you feel special and more moral than the rest of these people. You feel like you have principles.
Pretty much all religions have dietary restrictions. Even the likes of Scientology have special requirements at certain times. AFAIK only Protestants don't.
Fundamentally what Zanick is pushing is a form of Humanism - turning the fashionable societal opinions and beliefs into a religion.
When I pointed out that he wasn't willing to tell brown people what to do, I was pointing out a contradiction in his religious beliefs. -

All Zanick is doing is trying to push his personal code (morals) down other people's throats disguised as an agreed upon set of societal guidelines (ethics).
However he and Lanny are to smug in their pseudointellectual ways to admit that they have been misunderstanding the both words for almost 500 posts. -
