Assad represents order. People just want their home back at this point. They're sick of the shit. You'd want Assad too if you lived in Syria.
Assad had a fairly high approval rating even before all the unrest... You've got to keep in mind that the 'protests' were violent from almost the beginning. The initial protests in Daraa were widely televised as they were mostly students and young people in wealthy areas who were smitten with the west; as such there was public outcry when Assad came down on them with the hammer...
What they didn't show, though was the reason for it - something like 90 police and security officers were shot to death within the first week; the rebel militias had been armed prior to the the unrest.
After the first month or so, there were no 'moderate rebels'. The protests were superseded by groups of extreme Islamists and people trying to defend their neighbourhoods from them since the SAA had been completely hamstrung by sanctions (to this day Syria is officially barred from buying fuel and medical supplies) and threats of military action. -
2017-07-03 at 6:19 AM UTCYes, probably should've worded that better. I'd guess that his ratings soared over the course of the war, though obviously Syria doesn't keep statistics on that.

also, how is this not a fair comparison ?
for a conflict to last this long, there has to be an equal number of what we can loosely call ''combatants'' on both, throth, or however many different sides there are.
and thats irrelevant anyway.
I mean whoever it is that is fighting the syriac government or assad, be they isis, ypg, kdk, pkk, cia, fbi, bla-bla, they are obviously free to bear arms, real arms like reconciles guns, rpgs, hilux-mounted AAs etc etc, they still have a hard time overthrowing assad and his regime. Barely able to defend themselves sometimes.
IRAs had arms once, they failed. -

Because there aren't any families getting wiped out in England. Brexit is an issue of economics and cunts. Syria is an issue of life and death and genocide. Syria wasn't just some shithole either, it was a beautiful country before war broke out. It still is, but much of it has been destroyed. Aleppo was seriously gorgeous. People had nice lives.
People want Assad because they want peace. They want people to stop dying. They want the extremists thrown out. You have to have peace before you can start fighting over who you want to be president. Assad represents order. If you don't want Assad what the fuck do you want? You want ISIS to take over? They're on their last legs. Fuck that shit. Lots of people like the partially secular government they have. They like that parliament is going to be strengthened soon.
I don't know what you don't get about people wanting law and order being different from people being too apathetic to vote to keep their European club card. There is no not wanting Assad for anybody who wants their country back. -
2017-07-04 at 2 PM UTCFake news.
source for pic: http://www.newsweek.com/isis-syria-us-backed-forces-breach-raqqa-old-city-wall-631478
this is typical of the fake-news media. posting staged photos that have nothing to do with news and everything to do with entertainment.
these clowns are supposed to be in the middle of a major conflict yet have nary a speck of dirt on them and their uniforms look like theyve just come back from the dry cleaners. those boots are right out of the boxes...barely scuffed, toes in perfect condition. then there is the faggot in the back with that day-glo head wrap. anyone with a drop of common sense whos ever been in combat would have ditched that bullshit after the first shoot-and-scoot maneuver. and it sure to fuck wouldnt be that well-attached, much less shiny clean with those pretty bright colors...especially in sandboxistan.
the only bummer is their AK arent on 'safe.' i read an article a few months ago with a picture showing a bunch of them allegedly firing at oncoming badguys.
with the safeties on. -

The thing i was trying to point out was not whether there are families getting wiped our or britishes were trying to get out.
The thing I was trying to make clear is that, the conflict in syria and the ''thing'' in UK happened because there are more or less an equal number of opponents on both sides. That is the only reason I can think of as to why the conflict can be sustained this long.
I'm not sure I was correct or not, but at least it seems to me that way. -

We wouldn't care that much if they didn't try to pass it off as real -

yeah, they're shits too. The difference here is that advertisers don't pretend they have any semblance of 'journalistic integrity' and they don't pretend to be selling truth.
PS. Syria is hot and fucking dusty:

It's kind of overstated. The latest missile test was essentially a test of a multistage rocket - the missile they launched only went about 1000km, but according to them and the US it was successful. The rocket itself was a TBM, not an ICBM that could potentially reach the US but they've now demonstrated they're capable of:
1. Building a rocket capable of carrying a nuclear warhead
2. Building a propulsion system capable of carrying it the 9000km or so to the US coast
It'll still be a while before they're able to integrate the two into a functional missile, but the US REALLY doesn't want that to happen and technically speaking, it's not far off now. -

that.
the whole middle east is like that. the simple act of walking puffs up enough 'dust' sand to cover above the knees. when there are several people walking together everything gets covered and after literally 10 or 15 minutes of walking if you stick your finger up one of your nostrils you will extract nasty ass sand-coated slime. that is to say nothing of the internals of every single thing that isnt wrapped in a sealed plastic baggie. that shit even makes it through fatigue shirt/jackets and the t-shirt to get on the skin...but i think that has something to do with the act of walking makes some kind of air-pump action to actually pull the powdered dirt into the clothing. -

SYRIA - Russia's apparently given the SAA around 50 (number unconfirmed) of their new BMPT-72 "Terminators", an upgraded version of their current-gen AFV. This will be the first time it's been fielded and as such, the Russians are likely using the SAA to collect combat data relating to their effectiveness in an urban environment.
The BMPT-72 is built on a T-72 tank chassis and is relatively (for AFVs) short but attempts to compensate with heavy weapons, low crew requirement, reactive armor and reduced weight/increased speed.
Nothing official, but they're apparently slated to be used in the upcoming siege of Deir Eizzor. -
2017-07-05 at 4:12 AM UTCSYRIA - US has apparently airdropped around 150 FSA fighters at their Al-Tanf base; news going around their social networks is that the US aims to create a force that will attack Deir Eizzor, hoping to beat the SAA there.
