SYRIA - STAGED CHEMICAL ATTACK IMMINENT

You may have seen the front page of the NYT or virtually any of the major US newspapers - the White House has come out with the statement that 'Assad appears to be planning another chemical attack', as if the last two claims of chemical weapons use by the SAA hadn't been roundly disproven.

There are several things that are very troubling about the statement and corresponding news articles:

They're all worded very aggressively with the assumption that the White House's statement is infallible, regardless of the complete lack of evidence - they all focus on 'punishing Assad' and little else.

The timing is very close to the next round of Astana peace talks, which would likely expand the current 'de-escalation zones' agreed-upon and force more of the rebels into a political settlement. Further, the SAA has made some serious advances in regards to retaking Deir Eizzor and Resafa (the major crossroads south of Raqqa that both ISIS and the SDF rely on for supplies) - their gambit of shooting down an SAAF bomber failed to stop the advance.

As of around a week or so ago I was hearing rumours of US SOF groups looking for buildings west of Raqqa that could serve as barracks and assorted military installations, hinting at a much greater ground force being prepared. It makes sense that they've mapped the area and found what they were looking for, and are now creating an impetus for that ground force.

Most importantly, quotes like this leave little doubt as to what future plans for the conflict are:

ALSO I forgot: Seymour Hersch recently leaked communications between US ground troops and security advisers stating that they KNEW the SAA hadn't launched a chemical attack:

UKRAINE - Intelligence head killed in a car bomb. Either DPR militias got some reach (they'd considered retaliatory attacks after what happened to Motorola but didn't have the capacity to act) or Porky's power struggle with Azov/Right Sector and co. is getting a lot more intense.

guarantee there were 'advisors' involved here.

ones with zero chance of having their actual origin and employer discovered.

As an aside here, it didn't really occur to me until reading this transcript but most of Russia's recent reactions to aggression, ie. downing the Syrian bomber, Tomahawk rampage over the airbase etc. have had the primary goal of demoralising the US forces on the ground. All of the arguments and politics are secondary - the main goal has been to demonstrate that the RUAF acts in good faith and that it is their commanders that create conflict and to show that the Russian military hardware eclipses what capability the US presently has fielded.

likely, though I don't see how this will do anything more than speed up Ukraine's implosion which doesn't benefit anyone

The UK government's recent behavior is a perfect example of why we need the right to bear arms

your a complete retard. i mean, this thread, we've seen syrians' full and unrestrained freedom to bear arm, real arms and not like big boys' toys they have in the US, and assad still stands.

I guess it was an off topic post, sorry. I was thinking of how they've recently been totally disregarding the will of the people and generally not giving a shit about their safety (for example, rounding up and arresting people simply for saying something bad about Muslims right after they just got done saying they don't have the money to keep tabs on suspected jihadists)

But we can make another one if you guys want to talk about that, I was drinking and trying to be funny and I don't want to further shit up this thread

video (facebook). It's hard to make out any details and I don't have a translation though, so make of it what you will. The guy who posted it indicated that the chatter in the video was talking about how they'd seen US markings on the helicopters and that they'd been transferring weapons.

It occurred to me why this was being done when I read the post back - supporting ISIS there likely has little to do with Syria at all, it probably has the effect of interfering with the 'Tehran Express' (ie. supplies, military and otherwise from Iran to Syria and Gaza via land routes), but it's primarily to allow ISIS to cause problems for Iran directly.

IRAQ - Initial reports that the ISIS stronghold in Mosul has been crushed, now begins the mop-up operation.

As an aside, the group leading the defense of Mosul were ex-military and well-trained Chechens. They apparently comprise a lot of ISIS/Daash's leadership which is both a curse (because they are typically smarter and a lot more effective than local Arab fighters given their training and combat experience) and a blessing (because Russia and Chechenya have been able to use that as cover to embed their own agents).

    lol, what?

SOUTH CHINA SEA - Looks like the US has finally realised that nobody believes them when it comes to Syria anymore, so they've gone back to antagonizing China. Trump's said he's 'lost patience' with Best Korea but hasn't said what he plans to do about it, and they've resumed sending Navy ships to within dick-waving distance of the islets China's claimed in the South China Sea. China's sent destroyers and aircraft to intercept; we'll see how that goes.

SYRIA - anonymous sources claiming that a new chemical attack is being prepared near the site of the last one, Khan Sheikhoun/Kefraya. Locals report seeing an unusually large number of foreigners in the area.
